A Fusion Fan Who Is Now A Satisfied Schick Hydro User
I've used Gillette brand blades for well over 30 years. A number of years ago I participated in a 3-month Gillette consumer test of a new razor and blade system and have a pretty good idea of what to look for in a razor system and how to rank them. I've always considered them the best on the market, especially after every once in a while trying another brand and then coming back to Gillette. However, the pricing on Gillette's blades has become completely unreasonable. Moreover the durability of the newer Fusion blades leaves a lot to be desired which may be an indication of quality control problems. I can rarely get more than 5 shaves out of a Fusion blade before it goes dull, resulting in a poor and uncomfortable shave. The last Gillette price increase was the trigger for me to again investigate an alternative brand. I tried a couple off brands and wasn't satisfied. Then I came across the Schick Hydro 5. I'm in love with it. This shaving system provides a superior shaving experience at a very reasonable cost. The blades are significantly less expensive than Gillette and they last twice as long. I can usually get 10 shaves out of a single blade before there is a decline in performance. The Schick Hydro handle has a different weight and balance than the Fusion and this took a few days to get used to but now I find it as good, if not better, than the Gillette. The razor head seems to glide more evenly on my skin, even when shaving against the grain. And it has a clever little flip guard at the top that allows you to expose the top blades for trimming beneath your nose and other tight spots. If you'd asked me 6 months ago if I'd be using a razor not made by Gillette my answer would have been "no." Schick Hydro has changed my mind and I couldn't be happier. I'm getting a better shave at a cost much less than Gillette.

I've tried them all in my seventy six years and these are the best . What a pity I have to source them in America ! One blade will last me a month . The opposition - one week .

I lost my old Schick and realised why I like them - a smooth quick shave with a blade that seems to last for ages. I haven't tried that hard but haven't found another make to compare.

best of the best
I had never tried a 5 blade razor. I was still using a 3 blade Mach 3. So, I decided to buy a Gillette Proglide Power razor. It was nice. But considering the cost of the cartridge refills, not that much nicer than my old Mach 3. Then a friend of mine raved about the Schick Hydro 5. Blades are considerably cheaper was one bonus, but the real bonus is the shave itself. I've been shaving for 50 years and always bought Gillette, but I've now been converted. Schick has a real winner here, I'm not sure if it's the blades themselves or the super slick gel that slowly oozes out of the holes in the top of the cartridge, but I just got the most comfortable shave of my life with this thing. I purposely let my beard grow for 3 days, just to give it a little workout and boy did it perform. Not only was there no razor drag, it was the closest shave I've ever gotten. I usually have to spend a lot of time trying to get problem areas like around the jaw line clean, but not with this razor. And going against the grain on the neck area produced absolutely no razor burn at all.Gillette has the multimillion dollar ad campaign, but Schick has the better product. I hate the Schick ads on TV for this razor, but don't let that stop you. Highly recommended.

great for head shaving
I only use razors to shave my head, so I can't comment on face shaving. I started out using Gillette Fusion, but when I realized how expensive the replacement blades were, I started looking for alternatives. I tried the Hydro 5, and can honestly say I like it a lot- it feels good and the shave is excellent, not to mention the blades cost nearly half as much as the Fusions. And I've heard the blades last a lot longer too, though I can't confirm yet. If you're a Fusion user, do yourself a favor and try the Hydro5.Update: Still using the Hydro5, but I have cut myself a few times with it which is funny because I never cut myself with the Fusion. Still sticking with it, though. The blade has lasted about 6 months and is still going, shaving head usually about 2 times a week.
