His father often disapproved but he still went to theaters, left home at 16 to join the military and opened his own business drawing cartoons when the war was over. The rest, as they say, is history.He was not always the famous man we think of today, but never gave up on his dreams. Selden does a wonderful job of telling his story. Children who have grown up watching Disney’s characters and movies will delight in knowing more about Walt.Walt has had many successes, but also many disappointments and problems. He learned from his mistakes and never gave up.I recommend this for children because it is a biography that reads like fiction. They can relate to what his story because Disney is known to almost everyone, young and oldI would also recommend this to teachers as a read aloud book. I was instantly captivated by this book because I had no idea that Walt Disney had such a rigid father who dominated the family. I wonder though, if Walt would have been so successful without the type of upbringing that he had. He and his brother are fine examples of two people who made lemonade out of lemons. Walt seemed undaunted by failure. He learned from everyone and everything around him and his empire is proof of what hard work and a determined spirit can achieve. I want to know even more about the Disney empire.

This book is quite interesting and has some facts about Walt that you may not know. I got this one for a fast read for AR testing at my son's school. We read this one in an hour. It has some nice photo's included in the book Highly recommend. For all Disney fans .

Some Little known information about an American Icon. A really good read. Along with the Steve Jobs book it makes more sence. and you can understand how he got started or made a go of it.

My son successfully delivered a speech to his 4-6 class on the life of Walt. Good read for his grade level.

Great biography of Disney!! My son had a biography report due and this book was perfect. I enjoyed reading it as well.
