The Bantam New College Latin & English Dictionary

These days I use this dictionary almost exclusively as it is fairly complete, addresses a huge variety of expressions and each entry is extremely clear and well organized, all of this while being a small book that can be carried around.

The paperback copy, while very thorough and comprehensible, is a bit difficult to read due to the small print and the type of paper the publisher uses. Recommended for beginners as well as those who are refreshing themselves after they have not read Latin for a time.

I bought this for my husband whose hobby is translating Latin texts, for some reason. He thinks this book is great!

This is a very handy and concise Latin Dictionary, plus it has a number of idiomatic phrases -- both Latin and English. There are a few typos in the grammar guide, but it's easy to figure out what was going on. It's also simple, straight-forward, and direct. It gives shades of meanings for major words like facio or venio. Can't be beat for the price.

I'm a second-year Classics student and was just recommended this by a visiting professor. I love it! It makes doing my translations so much easier. I have another lexicon, but it's huge (the biggest book I own) and provides dozens of unnecessary references. This dictionary will provide you with a quick English definition so you don't lose your "translation momentum," so to speak. I wish there was something like this for Greek!

Book arrived on time, thanks amazon.de. Completely unusable. The print is tiny, impossible to see, looks like a font 7. Very disappointed.

今までOxford Latin Dictionaryを使っていましたが、この辞書より収載語数が多く、出ていない単語も出ていて助かっています（今、セネカの「幸福な生活について」を読んでいます。）。ただし、活字が小さく、老眼鏡でも見えづらいのが欠点です。ネットでの広告に活字の基準寸法（ポイント）を示していただくと助かります。次にBantamのハードカバー版（6000円位とありました。）の購入を考えていますが、貴社のネット上で写真だけでなく、辞書本文の活字のポイントを教えていただきたいと思います。

2/3 of the dictionary is Latin to english. It's a good standard-size [intermediate / semi-professional] dictionary. It's fun to see how many words are cognates, and to extract the hidden extended meanings. Contains many modern words, eg television, telephone etc.
