Well done! Loved it! Great read with mystery and adventure
Olivia is such a great character. She has a backbone of steel and a heart of gold. She is also CIA so trouble tends to happen when she is around. Leo is a sexy smart alpha man, who appreciates the value of the opinions of those around him. It takes a strong man to be able to do that. He's also able to look beyond what she shows and see that there's so much more to her.The story is action packed and filled with adventure on every page. I love that the story basically takes place on the ocean. What better place for a group of X-Seals to retire too. Mystery, treachery, along with sunken ships and treasure. Alpha males & hot sex, laughter & romance. New characters with witty personalities. You're going to laugh.I would suggest reading the Black Knight series, particularly book #7 - Full Throttle first to give you that bit of background. The Black Knight series is awesome and you'll be so happy that you started with them.Happy Reading!

Great story of a unit of Navy SEALS who after one of their own is gunned down, his dying request is that they promise him that they will not re-up when their tour is complete. That they will go and live their lives, that life is too short to keep doing this job. So all but one of the seven left are in the process of beginning a deep sea salvaging operation. Leo, their Lt. when in the SEALS, has his father's old salvage ship, which they have spent months and most of their monies refurbishing. They are about to start searching for a buried treasure that Leo's dad had just found part of before dying of a heart attack, when they get called in to do a very clandestine salvage job for Uncle Sam. Believe me when I say the plot begins to thicken here, not only is the CIA involved but the agent who comes to beg their help is none other than the one they were involved with helping in the mid-east when every thing imploded and their comrade was killed. She, Olivia, is the first woman Leo has really been unable to get off his mind. In the weeks they were working closely in the desert before all hell broke loose, there had been a mutual attraction but other than a stolen kiss, no time for anything else. As the complex task their government has asked them to do unfolds the danger and the heat between these two escalates! It is a no holds barred thriller guaranteed to keep you flipping those pages right to the end! Can't wait for the next Deep Six book to be out! (you are working on that aren't you Julie Ann?) Love those hunky SEALS! Merrilyn

Great first book in new series
Hell or High Water is a great start to the new Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker. True to form, Ms. Walker's latest work includes plenty of action, intrigue, camaraderie and smokin' sexy times! We met Leo and his SEAL team briefly in Full Throttle and again in Hot as Hell, the novella published as part of the Way of the Warrior project. Although Leo and the men of his Team are now officially civilians, one thing will always be true: once a SEAL, always a SEAL! The government comes knocking at their door once again and it arrives in the delectable form of one Olivia Mortier, the CIA agent Leo has been trying to forget for the last 18 months. He and his men made a deathbed promise to their SEAL brother Rusty to leave the missions behind and start living their lives for something more, but the threat is too great to turn their backs on. Throw in the promise of compensation that will keep the salvage company operational and the fact that guys are a bunch of matchmakers in disguise, and the boys are back in business temporarily. It's a good thing their skills are so ingrained they are basically second nature because the situation goes to hell in a hand basket as the saying goes, and it gets there in a hurry complete with terrorists, hijackings, damaged ships, and a CIA mole in the form of a US born citizen turned traitor. As the action rages around them, Leo and Olivia have to deal with raging hormones and lust as the guys find ways to throw them together in the hopes they will finally sort themselves out in the midst of the madness. After a couple of misfires and near misses, they finally carve out some alone time and 18 months of pent up frustration boils over in the best possible way. Leo is still a take charge kind of man but it's slightly tempered by the laid back lifestyle of island living and his sexy Southern drawl courtesy of his Louisiana upbringing. Once his head catches up to his heart and realizes the feisty warrior in a petite package is exactly what he has been waiting for all his life, he is all in and determined to prove to her they can make a go of it together. But Olivia is harboring a secret relating to one disastrous mission that affected them all, and it could destroy their relationship if it is ever revealed. Add in her childhood influences that cause her to push everyone away before they have a chance to reject her, and Leo has his work cut out for him. But as their motto says, the only easy day was yesterday, and that seems to be right on target for everything in his life at the moment.I have to say I expected more of the treasure hunting aspect of their story. It was definitely there but more in the background for the majority of the book. The depiction of Leo's struggles to adapt to civilian life after 15 years on the Teams seemed realistic, and I loved that the camaraderie and brotherhood between him and his men remained intact. The good natured teasing and smack talking between them made me laugh constantly. I thought about including some of the things they said, but they have the most impact in the context of the scenes as you read them yourself. Leo and Olivia complement each other well with great chemistry, and he doesn't do too badly in the sexy talking department either - yumminess in action there!Leo's cocky best friend Bran talks a big game and enjoys riling Leo up, but I think he met his match in the form of a diminutive sassy Texan woman along the way. It will be a whole lot of fun watching him bumble along when it's his turn to go down in flames! In the meantime, Hell or High Water is a great read so get that 1-click finger in action!

I you are a fan of the BKI series you will love the Deep Six series
I am a huge fan of Julie Ann Walker's BKI series, that being said, I will admit to being wary of a new series that is sort-of ~ but not quite a spin-off of that series. All wariness aside...I have read the first book in this new series, Hell or High Water, and I am in love with it!This gives you idea of where this series will lead us."In a world on the brink…Six men. One sunken Spanish galleon. Millions in gold and silver coins lying on the ocean floor. And a past that refuses to let the guys of Deep Six Salvage forget the Navy SEAL motto: the only easy day was yesterday…"Book #1 in the Deep Six series, Hell or High Water is written very similarly to the BKI series. It has action, adventure, sexy Alpha dudes, and is written with a fun sense of humor that I just adore in Julie Ann Walker's writing. This book introduces us to some new characters, the sexy guys of "deep Six Salvage" who are all retired SEALS, with the main focus on Leo & Olivia's story and let me tell you the chemistry between these two is off the charts hot! The background story is fun and exciting, these guys are searching for a sunken treasure ship, but of course if it's found right away we won't have much of a series. If you are a fan of the BKI series or just a fan of fun, feisty, fabulous adventures. You will love this book!

Addicitve romantic suspense
Hell or High Water is the first novel in Julie Ann Walker's new Deep Six series and is Leo "The Lion" Anderson and Olivia Mortier's story.Leo and the Deep Six diving team used to be Navy SEAL's before a failed mission forced them to 'retire'. On his final mission with the SEAL's, Leo met CIA operative Olivia and he has been unable to forget her. When Olivia finds herself in need of a highly skilled diving team for a top secret mission, she calls on Deep Six and is reunited with Leo.Leo is a sexy, protective, alpha male and Olivia a smart, likeable heroine who has no trouble holding her own. The chemistry between the two leads is explosive and I loved how their relationship developed. Leo and Olivia make a great couple and I was routing for their HEA. There are also great supporting characters and I cannot wait to read their stories.Hell or High Water was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this series. There was a lot of information to take in as Walker set up the world of Deep Six, but this in no way detracted from the story. Already a fan of Walker's Black Knights Inc. novels, I was looking forward to this new series and I was not disappointed at all. Hell or High Water was a smart, suspenseful, well written, romance and I would definitely recommend it to lovers of this genre.

Good intro to a new series with action, banter & hot scenes - not a heavy suspense
Good start to a new series about a team of ex-seals who form a company to become Salvors, looking for treasure around the waters of Key West. I loved the banter between the guys and how Leo and Olivia traded insults and wisecracking one liners whilst fighting a hot attraction. There's action, a double agent to unmask, recovering missing chemical weapons and fighting against the Tangos, with some hot sex. There are parts where I had to suspend belief at times, and I did wonder how Olivia was touted to be such a successful CIA Agent when she was a bit of a wuss more than once. I think of this as more of a comfy slippers type read and I'd recommend it.

An enjoyable read.
The new series from a personal favourite Julianne Walker,Hell or Highwater starts the series of six ex-seals who have decided after loosing a friend to quit the seals and start a salvage business .This particular book follows Leo and Olivia who is a CIA agent as she asks Leo and his men to come out of retirement to salvage some lost chemical weapons. The book is good but the story for me lacked depth and I didn't feel the relationship between Leo and Olivia. However I would recommend this book as it is a first in the series and feel there is lots to come for the other characters. I think BKI is such a hard series to follow that any new series is going to take a few books to get established.

Excellent introduction to a new series
Not familiar with this author I ordered this book on the strength of the Novella she included in The anthology Way of the Warrior. That was called Hot as Hell. This book did not disappoint with just the right mix of hunky (retired) SEAL action, a kick ass woman, steamy romance and the usual bunch of "tangos". The added extra was the great humour running throughout. Book 2 is a definite auto buy and I will also be looking at the Black Knights series on the strength of this book.
