First off, let me say that this game is a blast and I had a great time playing it. I have played almost all the TR games since the original in 1996. Also, I understand why the game received an "M" rating--the blood, gore, and language park it clearly in that category. My question is, why did Crystal Dynamics design this game with M-rated content when virtually all the other TR games were "T"? TR Underworld, the last installment in the series, was rated T16+. I have a pre teen daughter who loves Lara's character. For parents who take ratings seriously, they have blocked out a whole group of gamers who would love to play the game and experience Lara's origins. I know-and the developers know this of course--that teens will play the game anyway. While I have only played through about a quarter of it, I have gotten a good feel for the spirit of the game and for me, the "M" content--namely the added gore and the occasional "F bombs"--did not factor in how I experience the game. In fact, the factors that push the game into the "M zone" seem more like forced additions. While I am no marketing expert, I wonder why Crystal dynamics chose to go in this direction. The Uncharted games are all "T" and they are intense, thrilling games. Perhaps the creators of this new Tomb Raider want to distinguish this game from Uncharted and creat their own unique nitch instead of being labeled as "Uncharted 4." Comparing it to a movie, I would consider "M" the equivalent of an "R" rating. If it were a movie, I think a story like TR, with a young heroine trapped on an island, exploring tombs and fighting off bad guys, would be taylored toward a PG-13, not an R. I regret that the developers of the new TR decided to go in this direction as the game would have been just as fun with a "T" rating and would have been open to a teen audience which would really enjoy Lara's story.

Glitchy, but 100% worth it.
(Note that I've only played through part of Sands of Time.)I've been a fan of the Sands of Time ever since it came out in 2003, though I haven't bought or played through the second or third games. I bought this game so I could have all three games in HD and widescreen on my PS3.Sound -I read a lot of reviews here and on other websites and noticed that many of them complained about the sound quality, some even calling it "abysmal" and "unplayable". I would definitely have to disagree. Admittedly, the sound quality is pretty poor, but in most cases it's very similar to the original game. I've never really been able to hear what people were saying on my PS2 copy of the game, but I actually find I can hear them much better now. With the traps such as "spiky poles" and sawblades, it is near-impossible to hear them until you're practically on top of them, but they've never really been hidden, so it's just as easy to bypass them as if you could hear them. Turning the "Sound Effects" volume down and leaving the "Voices" volume at max also makes it easier to hear what people are saying. The music is still great. In essence, the sound is not the greatest, but I will not stop playing the game just because of mediocre sound quality.Rating: 3/5Graphics -These are where the game really shines. Obviously, it's been remastered in HD and widescreen. The character models are fairly blocky, probably because they were not updated with the rest of the game, but the textures are wonderful and the environments and characters as beautiful as ever.Rating: 5/5Controls -The controls are the same as the original game, and provide fluid, easy movements.Rating: 5/5Gameplay -The gameplay is also the same as the original game (it was remastered, not redone), and is just as fun. The only thing I would have to complain about in this edition is that, like others were mentioning, there are some hitches and glitches every now and then. I experienced some lag where the game stopped for a second or so, and I experienced one fatal crash that forced me to reboot the entire PS3.Rating: 4/5Overall -All-in-all, I find that this remastered edition has its flaws, but it's 100% worth the price I paid (it was on sale, so $20). The sound quality is not amazing, but that will not keep me from playing the game. I experienced some glitches, but they are few and far between and have not generally hindered my experience.Overall Rating: 5/5

Same games, same gameplay, better looking.
I won't review the games here, as each of the individual games has reviews all over the internet that cover things in great detail. Suffice it to say that these games were some of the best 3D platformers of the 6th gen (PS2/Xbox/Gamecube) and served as the forerunners of what came to be known as the "action/adventure" genre. You'll find in these games elements that inspired gameplay in later games such as tthe Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, and the Tomb Raider Reboot. Yes, Tomb Raider borrowed heavily from Uncharted, which borrowed from Prince of Persia, which borrowed from the original Tomb Raider games, which borrowed from the Indiana Jones movies, which borrowed from 30s and 40s adventure serials. Everything is a remix. The HD port is what people would want to get this for, and it's a good one. It looks sharper and cleaner, and runs in a higher resolution with a smoother frame rate. That said, textures aren't greatly, if at all improved, and games that attempted a "realistic" look in the characters and environments don't fare as well from HD remastering as the more cartoony games of the era such as Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank. The higher resolution will sometimes reveal the limitations of the source rather than improving on them. The game mechanics and story remain untouched, the second game being the best of the bunch. If you've never played these, this is the collection to get.
