Good purchase
I bought this same collar 12 years ago! First one just quit working now. I was happy to see it was still available. Works well and dogs catch on in one day. I only use tone button now, he knows what the sound means. When I got the new collar it seemed to work but then noticed it wasn’t working consistently, so I synced the collar to the remote and no problems since.

Life-Saving Device for Bad Canine Habits
I can't say enough good things about this device! The only negative I can think of is that the batteries were somewhat difficult to align and then replace the cover...especially on the remote. We finally got it right and put it on our 3-1/2 month old Dobie. I set it on "2" (out of 8) and took him for a walk down the lane. He had a very annoying and potentially dangerous habit of eating crushed stone from our lane!! No, not the pea-size stone...stones that were quarter size and jagged!! The Dr. said this was very rare but does happen. If the stones got lodged between the stomach and the small intestine, it would definitely kill him if he were not operated on immediately. Sobering thought so I did research and found this collar with remote. This stone-grabbing and swallowing had become a game to him....! Anyway, I took him down the lane with the collar on and the remote in my hand. As soon as he scooped up a mouthful of stones, I yelled, "NO...DROP"! At first he was bewildered, but then he dropped the stones and moved on....did this one more time and he seemed to get it. On this morning's walk, he did not grab the stones. A little bit later, I let him out w/o the collar and he grabbed a stone...I pointed my finger and yelled out him to "DROP"...he did. In case you were wondering...he has a superior diet of raw meat/cheese/quality puppy kibble/occasional raw egg and a canine Super Food powder to sprinkle over all. He also has access to marrow bones and soft brisket bones from the local meat processing plant. Just something about those stones, I guess! Kinda humorous, too, because I would find small piles of crushed stones in the yard in the mornings. The resident possum would swing by at night and "clean up". And so it goes in the country.

Very poorly designed product... 4 reasons why... also watch the video... [...]
This product is so poorly engineered. First of all, I am not a negative person that likes to post negative reviews and spread negativity. In fact I've had this product for over a year and noticed the flaws from day 1 but figured I'd try and make the best of it. However today was the last straw. There's 4 main reasons this product is ineffective and I even recorded a video to explain it... [...]1. The strap: the strap is a slippery nylon so it does not stay tight around the dogs neck. When it loosens throughout the day, the electrical shockers do not stay snug against the dogs neck so therefore it fails to actually shock the dog (and therefore does not do its job!) Now, I have a 7 poind dog so its not like they are incredibly strong and that's why the strap loosens... see the video and I show how easy it is to loosen!2. The on/off button: the button is a simple push button on the shock device. Well, since it's a push button, it's very easy for the dog to push on and off throughout the day as the dog rubs up against it. For example when our dog lays down in the crate. Why is this a big deal???Two reasons: first of all if the device is OFF when we want it on, then when we go to shock the dog to discipline it, the shocker is off! Therefore we cannot shock the dog and therefore it doesn't work! Whats the point of getting a shocker if we cant use it. Secondly, when the device turns ON when we want it off it drains the battery and costs us a lot of money to replace batteries.3. The battery housing area on the shocker device: the batteries are inserted into the device and a plate that you screw in covers the battery housing area. This plate gets stuck and is very difficult to remove when replacing the batteries. So when you go to pull it off to access the batteries the batteries go flying. It's like when you're trying to open a bag of chips and they suddenly open and the chips go flying everywhere!4. The battery housing area on the remote: This is EQUALLY as frustrating as #3. The batteries do not sit well inside of the remote and it's a pain in the butt to get the battery cover back on the shocker when you put the new batteries in. We finally gave up and just taped the battery cover back on. So ghetto!

Works until it doesn't.
I bought this collar Febuary 2015 and now I'm back looking for a new one as this one is broken. It worked well up until this point. The transmitter has a flexible antenna that fits/slides into a slot for it on the collar. Think clock radio antenna. Didn't like it at first cause I thought this break down I have today would happen. Maddie the Mad Dog (Black Lab/Brittany cross) is 14 months and is doing well with the collar. She has a very hyper demeanor due to her breed. Lately I noticed her "testing" her boundaries more. Usually, by simply having the collar on without giving any correction, she comes when called, doesn't jump, stops behavior, etc. Over the last few days I noticed no correction was being given, and found that the antenna was torn off and missing when I went to change the battery. This renders the coller useless except the beep function. I have a suspicion it's been gone awhile and no one noticed. She had been mainly using the beep function anyhow. Although this collar lasted a year and did well with training, I will be looking into a different brand. This is the 2nd petsafe collar I've had that only lasted a year. The other was for a Yorkie that I didn't feel needed the collar by the time it broke. This time I'm slightly annoyed because we still need it at times, especially outside. In short, the collar does work well for pup training, but you need to make sure you're careful about the antenna. I think it should be more durable considering its manipulated with every battery change. It's also in a bad spot that makes it easier to accidentally break. It would be perfect if the antenna was sturdy.

Did the trick
I have two units. Has worked to stop 1 dog from barking excessively and stopped the other dog from jumping up and getting too rambunctious. I only used the static a few times and now only need the sound warning.

I want to give it more stars, but it doesn't zap very well.
I tried this on one of my pups I usually use one of the blue rechargeable Petsafe collars on, and he didn't even notice that I was zapping him even on full power. It doesn't vibrate, so I was kinda stuck with a pup that wasn't responding at all.I tried it on my arm at the maximum power, and it was basically just a tingle. The collar said the battery was good, but it didn't feel it. With the blue collar, it almost hurts at full power. So I dunno... Maybe it's mis-measuring the batteries, but I'd only put them in 4 days before so I don't think it's that! - I'd pay a bit more and get a blue rechargeable one anyway.Hopefully, you find this review helpful.

thankfully amazon has made it super easy to send them back
I've ordered two now, and the sound button works but the stimulant one both haven't, thankfully amazon has made it super easy to send them back, so I'm grateful for that.
