Does this get power from furnace? If it does, why does it say batteries required?

This unit does not have a slot for the 24volt C (Common) wire. If you have a C-wire, I'd find a different unit and take advantage of it and forget the batteries.

Set heat to wake to 8am but is cold when i wake up at 8am. tech support said it is 'smart' and will learn to turn on before 8am? true???

When the thermostat has the "Smart Response/Adaptive Intelligent Recovery" enabled, the thermostat will learn how long it takes the HVAC system to heat or cool. The thermostat will then start the programmed schedule early to reach the selected temperature setpoint by the desired time. It will take a few days for the thermostat to learn how long it will take.

How long does the over ride go for?

Hi Sandi, you can override the schedule using the temporary or the permanent hold. Temporary hold will override the schedule until the next period of the schedule starts while permanent hold sill override the schedule until you press 'Run' button to resume the schedule. Can you set a timer to return to designated temperature?

The timer/temperature can be set for a 5 day work week routine (temp is lower from the time household members usually go to bed to when they usually get up). There is also a weekend scheduling option that can be adjusted if household members usually stay up later and perhaps sleep later on the weekends.
