CD Review: They've grown up - I have loved Fall Out Boy since I stumbled upon their first album in an old record shop, "Evening Out With Your Girlfriend". I continued to love them through all of their ups and downs. Infinity on High is my least favorite of their records - it felt less like FOB and more like a record they needed to release to keep their name out there. Don't get me wrong, there are a few great tracks on there but I don't listen to more than half that CD. Folie a Deux really blew my mind and brought them back for me - that's why I was so surprised that they went on a hiatus. I felt like they had found their vibe, found what made them love music. I was wrong. This is their best yet. I can't skip any track. the wonderful lyrics are back and they've grown up. They play their instruments like it is a part of them, Patrick's voice is always amazing and you can't help but rock along with each song. Each song brings something different and shows a new way that the band has grown. THese aren't the same boys from From Under The Cork Tree - these are men who are now a rock band that are ready to remind you why you fell in love with them in the first place. Welcome back, guys. Review: I wasn't sure what to expect from this album. - In the past few weeks I was steadily growing more excited, but I was also afraid I was going to be disappointed. But it's finally here, and it was very much worth the wait. Save Rock and Roll is unapologetically loud, fast, passionate...and imperfectly perfect. I think this record has brought them full circle. This IS Fall Out Boy. It feels like they have created a living memorial to all of their previous albums. The unrestrained energy of Take This. The tongue-in-cheek and determination of Cork Tree. The anything-and-everything-could-happen music styles of Infinity. And the soaring vocals of Folie. I can feel them all echoing. If this hadn't come after a hiatus, I would have thought this was meant as a goodbye. But there's undeniably something new and exciting about every song. It's infectious and fun and feels like a natural progression while still keeping everything I've always loved about them. Maybe it is a goodbye to the past, making way for whatever comes in the future. But, if this is the last that we are given from Fall Out Boy... I am content with this. It feels like an end, but somehow also like a beginning. And I am so thankful to Andy, Joe, Patrick, and Pete for creating it. I loved this album. It made me smile uncontrollably. It made me cry. It made me remember. It made me want to jump up and move. It made me want to take a drive and blare it while singing as loud as possible. Every single second was golden to me.

Alone together
Needless to say, yes, I'm kind of a fanboy (actually I'm a woman, but still). This is a complete album start to finish. There is no song that I dislike. I will admit, that when I first got it, I listened to it constantly for roughly two months straight, as did the people that work with me... If you're a fan of FOB (old school days, I'm pretty sure we're the same age), then yes, you'll enjoy it. If you're a lonely girl... yes you'll love it. If you're a lonely boy... yes you'll love it. If you're having a s***ty time in life... it's kind of positive. It has a little bit of everything in it. Even if you're naughty... there's something in there for you too. The videos are priceless as well, if you enjoy such things (90's kids, we love that s***). I kind of like to re-arrange the songs a bit... make a bit of a story out of it. Like most artistic things, people like to interpret them as to fit the situation they are in. This album is all over my situation, which is why I enjoy it so much I suppose. I do highly suggest it. I can't wait for the summer tour... At least then I'll get to be alone together with my boys, which is how I feel most of the time these days.

Sticking better sooner than the last.....
I am listening to this whole album for the first time as I write this. I have been a die hard fan of Fall Out Boy ever since I heard "Grand Theft Autum" all those years ago. "From Under The Cork Tree" was the first album I had gotten, and played it over and over, later getting "Take This To Your Grave" and doing the same. As "Infinity on High" and "Folie a Deux" came out, it took me a couple of listens before they won me over completely, and once that happened I couldn't get enough of them. So, having that history with the band, I expected to have to grow into this album as well, even though I LOVE the first single. What I discovered was a pleasant surprise. It's Fall Out Boy, but different. I have the great lyrics with all the double entendress, as I would only hope they would continue. But the whole vibe of the album seems like a breath of fresh air. You can tell they really enjoyed getting back together and making this music this time around. Like they were revived and it comes through. The same wonderful sarcasm is there, and the beats are great. I can see myself singing these around the house and in the car at the top of my lungs every chance I get. I don't know if this will "Save Rock and Roll" as it were, but the energy infused into it is a great start.

Just Different Enough
The following is a verbatim copy from my review at: [...] The new Fall Out Boy album, Save rock and Roll, came out a few weeks ago after five long years. Having listened to it about a half dozen times now, I figured I had a good enough handle on it for a review. For context, I enjoyed the last three albums. I enjoyed Folie à Deux the most – I felt it was the peak of their maturity both musically and lyrically. (According to a recent Rolling Stone article, I’m in the minority) This album overall has a dance anthem feel to it. There were danceable elements to previous albums, but this one really seems to go for a dance rhythm. The Phoenix – The album starts off extremely strong, setting the tone. I really enjoy this song. My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) – Lyrically, this song is the first to sound more like the older albums, although the music continues to be more of a dance vibe than previous songs. It’s a great first single since it is pretty representative of the rest of the album. Alone Together – I’ve long been a sucker for call and response songs. So I love the chorus with: Say Yeah (Yeah)/Let’s Be Alone Together (Yeah). While still maintaining the energy of the album as a whole, this is the first song that sounds musically like the previous albums. Where Did the Party Go – But right after that similar sounding song, we jump right back into the dance anthems. It makes sense considering it’s called Where Did the Party Go. Interestingly, I find the song to lyrically be similar to the old Panic! At the Disco songs, while seeming like a song you’d throw on at a party. Just One Yesterday (featuring Foxes) – I like the use of the corny pickup line as the root of this song. “Anything you say can and will be held against you/Say my name and it will be held against you”. While, they have had some collaborations like Jay-Z in the past, this album seems to have the most use of guest singers. Foxes makes a GREAT contribution here, similar to Kina Grannis on I Fight Dragon’s With You. She contributes both background vocals and a verse. The Mighty Fall (featuring Big Sean) – This is a great. bombastic song that I could see a lot of people playing as an FU song to others. I’m not a huge fan of Big Sean’s part, but it’s not horrible. Miss Missing You – Another huge song, this time a carrying-the-torch song. The biggest theme of this album is HUGE sound. This is not a subtle albm. Death Valley – The pace picks up a bit from the song and then drops everything but acoustic guitar for a quarter of a verse. The music is in top form on this album. They’re not afraid to go from an all out musical assault to as sparse as possible if that’s what the song needs at the moment including guitar distortion at the end. Young Volcanoes – A milder anthem that could almost be an easy listening track. It’s the mildest track on here and I swing back and forth between enjoying it (especially for the lyrics) and hating it for sounding so bubble-gum. But the one song I truly dislike is the next one. Rat a Tat (featuring Courtney Love) – Maybe I’m a bit poisoned by Danielle’s almost vitriolic hatred of Courtney Love, but I really don’t like this song. I don’t like the disorganized and almost discordant sound of the song. Which sucks because, as with the previous song, I actually like the Fall Out Boy-sung lyrics. But the song just does nothing for my ears. Save Rock and Roll (featuring Elton John() – This is the final track and I think it ends perfectly. While there an always be a case made for ending an album on an exciting note, I think it’s always nice to end an album on an introspective note. Not only that, but Elton John’s contribution is the best collaboration on the album. I think with this album, Fall Out Boy has both reinvented themselves while remaining true enough to transition those of us who are older fans over to this new sound. I recommend it whether you’re a fan of their old stuff or stayed away (as I did for too long) because you didn’t identify with “emo” or thought they were a band for teen and pre-teen girls to listen to. If we can keep getting strong albums like this, 2013 is going to be a great year for music.

From a True Believer in FOB
I must say when I heard FOB was coming back I was thrilled yet skeptical. I didn't think they'd be able to live up their former potential. FOB over the years with their albums have always made it clear that they never quite keep their sound the same. While Patrick is always the lead and Pete always writing the lyrics, everything else always changed. For better and for worse I must admit. Listening to this album I was pleasantly surprised with how they seemed to mix the past four albums into something that actually all worked together, almost seamlessly. This album deserves a good shot. Alot of people again like with the past few FOB albums love to hate on it. but what made FOB so good was that they don't conform to what the reviewers want. They go with what they want, and I believe that's given them the longevity and ability to come back after a few years and still make good music. While the rest of the mainstream rock/alt. rock scene is struggling to find bands that last the ages, I believe FOB will always be a band worth listening too. While most of you are thinking this review is strongly biased, I will have to agree, However know that I dont buy albums lightly. I believe in supporting the bands by buying their music, but most are not album worthy anymore. I have purchased every single one, loving and hating each FOB album along the way. I plan on listening to this album for weeks on end. I have to learn every word after all :P

Got this album to rediscover the band
When I bought the album I had already been hooked on "My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up)" its a catchy tune with an interesting music video. From track one (The Phoenix) the strong hook of the instrumental element of this song is amazing especially when you're playing it in the car with all windows down. Track six (The Mighty Fall, feat. Big Sean) is in my top three favorite from this album. The lyrics and the added versus from Big Sean makes this song great. Track 11 (Save Rock and Roll, feat Elton John) is my top favorite. Come on!! An awesome band like Fall Out Boy with the added greatness that is Sir Elton is just mind blowing. Save Rock N Roll in its entirety is a new revamped sound for Fall Out Boy. They've evolved as have their fans but with tracks like "Where did the Party Go" reminding me of the early days of the band. This isn't a departure from who they are, just evolving into greatness. I'm just glad Fall Out Boy is back again with an awesome album. This album is meant to be listening in a large open space or as previously stated in your car with the windows down.

Surprised.
I grew up with Fall Out Boy (FOB). From Under the Cork Tree was the album everyone in my middle school was raving about ~9 years ago. It was a new kind of alternative band, with interesting song titles sure to catch any tween-teen's attention in the early 00's. The album following that one, Infinity on Hype was alright, but afterwards, I slowly stopped listening to them. Feeling kind of nostalgic, I decided to give the newly reformed Fall Out Boy another chance. I'm glad I did. This album has several songs on it that are quite catchy, and poppy. Their sound definitely somewhat changed from the Dance, Dance days but not too much that I couldn't reminisce. Songs such as: The Phoenix, Where Did the Party Go, Just One Yesterday, The Mighty Fall, and Save Rock and Roll are highlights of the album. This album has featured vocals of Foxes (artist in grammy winning track 'Clarity') , Big Sean (distinctive rap vocals), and Elton John (legendary?), which I thought was interesting, since it covers a random range of music. Overall, it's recommended if you like alternative music (what's considered good alt anyway), or want to listen to something nostalgic.

Insomma, Amazon efficiente come sempre!
