Had a client bring in a black car from 2013 that could use a polish, as I wasn't sure on its history I used the gauge to find a solid 125+micron reading all over the vehicle letting me know I could confidently polish as it was likely a 3 stage paint and it polished up quick easy and back to a mirror finish.

I am not sure the reading is the most accurate but I purchased this for training purposes and it does the job well. I run a small powder coating business and I use it to help my guys refine their techniques. It may not give super accurate readings but it will definitely give you a good idea of how thick your coat is. If you're looking for something to serve a similar purpose, I would recommend this product.

I am a professional vehicle inspector. Even without this tool I can tell when a car has been resprayed, and I can always find bondo, but that's not always easy to convey to a customer that's not there with me. I use this tool and take photos of the result to show where there might be bondo or an extra layer of paint. I'm not a concours judge but my inspections range from 63 Jags to 2015 Subarus and this has been a great tool to show customers what I mean. It may or may not be as accurate as the more expensive gauges but it works perfectly for my needs.

I tried this on my car that has paint protection film on some areas and ceramic coating. I was amazed on the differences in thickness between the areas that had the film and the rest of the car. It's a very fascinating tool.

Garbage, totally inconsistent and inaccurate readings. You can repeatedly test the same spot and it gives you a different reading every time.
