Just like the old days
This took us back a few years. We were a bit more excited than we should have been. Looks amazing though having bought the black it might be a nightmare for fingerprints but it's worth it. Definitely lighter than the originals but still sturdy and doesn't look cheap. Ring is very similar to the old phones and a good volume. It comes with the necessary lead and adaptor if needed for router. (We only found the adaptor after going to 6 different shops to try and buy the correct lead, so make sure you empty your box!) We have a buzz on the line when talking which is a bit frustrating but I don't necessarily think this is a problem with the item. If you can get past the buzz the actual voices are clear and louder than our previous modern phone. Hopefully the buzz will sort and it won't be the actual phone but other than this 10/10.

Great quality build and original sound!
OMG! I'm loving this! When I was growing up in the 70's, my family had a red version of this phone and when I saw this on Amazon, I had to get one. I'm so happy with my purchase. It looks, feels, and more importantly, sounds just as I remembered! There is nothing flimsy about this phone. The chassis is a good quality build, nice and heavy. The handset is slightly lighter than the original phone in the 70's but that takes nothing away from it. The rotary dial isn't as tightly wound as I remember the original being, but again, this is not an issue, as it is adapted for pulse tone. There is also a # and * on the dial for use with telephonic menu options, i.e banks, etc. This has the actual bell as the ringer, which threw me straight back to the 70's when I first heard it. Loved it! There is an ON/OFF switch for the ringer and you have a choice of Normal or High for the ringer also. I keep mine on High, just because I love hearing the phone ring throughout my home :) The sound quality on the line is great. No distortion, no crackling and those I've called on it, have said that they hear me perfectly clearly. I also have a cordless phone plugged into another socket and there is no interference with either. GPO have made a quality product that I'm happy to recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying from this brand.

Very authentic looking
I really love this phone. I bought the black one as it best reminds me of "the old days". It is quite heavy and doesn't appear flimsy at all (and being black it is really shiny too!). I had wondered if it would be able to handle the modern day automated system of "press 1 for something, press 2 for something else etc.", but all you do is dial the 1 or 2 instead of pushing the buttons and it works the same. The only issue I have is that to dial any numbers higher than 3 you need to hold the base with one hand as it moves around too much, so you basically can't hold the receiver properly while you dial the number as you need that hand to hold the base steady. I don't know what we used to do in the past as this phone seems as heavy as the old ones were. Perhaps there are some kind of non-slip pads that can be stuck on the feet to hold it in place, which would make a world of difference. It comes with the cable, but the jack that goes into the OpenReach socket doesn't fit - the jack is the small square one but the socket is rectangular. So if you don't already have a phone to take the cable from, you will need to buy one. This was a bit disappointing because my old cable is grey and the black one obviously looked nicer, but it's no big deal. The phone is very basic. It is literally just a phone, no caller display or any other benefit that we have come to take for granted these days. But if it is authenticity that you are looking for, you will not be disappointed. It takes me back to my youth and makes me happy just looking at it!

Retro classic! Just perfect!
So when I was little my parents had a phone like this, when they upgraded the house phone I had their old one in my Wendy house, to have a working one which brings back so many childhood memories is fantastic!! I will say there are two options like and normal- Iโd recommend the loud. It sounds bloody fantastic just like they used to!! I love the coloured wire, it matches the phone nicely. I got the red one- my husband says itโs like the bat phone! We are both pleased with this buy!!! The phone itself is lightweight, the old ones were much heavier but it makes no difference to the quality of it. Great statement piece and a lovely addition to my hallway, I really love it!

SOOOO COOL!!!
I've been looking to go "old school" with the landline for about 6 months now. Looked at, and read LOTS of reviews. I finally decided to buy this one and oh my days...I LOVE IT!! It's not as heavy as they were back in the day, but everything else is so authentic. Took literally minutes to set it up. Love that there's volume control and that the ringer can be switched off. I LOVE IT!! Jane ๐ UPDATE...the rotary dial isn't as solid as they used to be. Feels a bit flimsy but it works well. Does not change my overall review, Jane ๐คฉ

Works well
Well it works and it looks the part, but the rotary dial springs back way too fast and it feels really light, so light it moves easily while dialing, so in an attempt to fix the rotary dial speed I took it apart and was immediately disappointed with what I saw. Here is the an original rotary and A picture of the one I received.

Nice looking but may not be practical
We bought this phone for the looks not for practicality. It definitely looks and feels like the phone we had when I was growing up in the '70s. Unlike some retro style phones, the rotary dial actually works to dial a number, this gives an authentic feel but does make it a little impractical and it takes ages to dial a number, just like it always did on this type of phone. The ringer sounds like a proper old bell style phone, it's not as heavy as the original phones of this style but it looks well-made and doesn't feel cheap. The speaker is okay and I've had no complaints from people I've been talking to about sound quality. Probably not the best option if you use banking or other service that rely on a touch-tone phone. The dialler can be used for touch-tone but it is not practical because of the rotary action.

Disappointed
It looks fabulous, sounds fabulous but I found it NOT compatible with modern tech. It doesn't ring mobile numbers. I can hear a caller speak but they can't hear me.
