The Peter Gunn music from the TV series is excellent. It's a collector's dream come true. Henry Manciniis masterful. If you love jazz, you'l love this CD. The bonus is two great albums on one CD for yourlistening pleasure. I highly recommend this collection.

Mellow light mix
This is a nice blend of mild jazz in itself, while extracted from and evocative of the TV show. For me it is just the right touch, a nice change of pace from the Blues, Heavy Metal & Salsa I typically have blasting from my car radio. I wish the liner notes would have given a bit more information about the actual musicians who played at "Mother's" & other sites over the course of the series, but that's my own preference so I can't hold this CD at fault for that.

A Rare Collection of "Cool"
Recorded in the late '50's, The Music from Peter Gunn was one of the first stereo recordings ever made. Unlike today's multitracking techniques, stereo was created by ambiant mics strategically placed to capture live preformances. What we have here is a time capsule of the most exciting and vibrant preformances of some of the "coolest" big band jazz that was ever made. The genius of Mr. Mancini is displayed in the smooth tunes he wrote that capture the feel of the era so well and are preformed flawlessly by a amazing group of musicians. Virtually every member of his group of musicians gets an opportunity to display their prowess as jazz soloists, weaving an intricate tapestry of sounds that embrace each tune. Mancini's use of French horns provides special texture for his wall of sound and his creative use of trombones as solo instruments gives many of the tunes their characteristic and catchy flavor.Make no mistake, this collection is for the fans of big band jazz. You can almost picture the musicians with their "shades" on, cigarette precariously hanging out of the corner of their mouths as they play the walking bass lines in smoky clubs while everyone snapped their fingers to the beat. If that's not your cup of jo, then you probably won't like this collection. But if you liked that kind of music, this is the best collection of "cool" jazz ever made.

first rate........highly recommend
Combo of two albums released in '59/60 from the TV show. Had both in LP version back then. Finally picked up this CD replacement. Essence of cool, at least early 60's style. Tuneful and inventive. Mancini knocked them dead and enhanced his already impressive reputation with these compositions. Based on reviews written this is the disc to buy as other single album remasters were reportedly not done well. Don't have the others but know this one sounds great.Great add to your collection.

Tre Cool
Very cool collection. I didn't know it was called "crime jazz" until I saw another reviewer mention it. I only know the TV show from reruns, as it left the airwaves a few months before I was born. However, I fell in love with the show and the music. The music was the perfect fit for film noir mood of the series. It is also great lounge music for chilling out in the evenings.

Best television score ever.
Mancini's early jazz compositions for small combo and big band are unmatched for jazz listening enjoyment. Everyone should have these two albums (one CD) in their collection.

Sizzling hot jazz!Everybody knows the "Peter Gunn Theme", but I had thought the rest of the album would be "filler".Uh-UHHHH! No way is THIS filler material! Mancini doesn't have a single dud on the album!" Brothers Go to Mother's", "Fallout", "Floater" and "Brief and Breezy" are dynamite stuff! The Hipster gives it a Big Thumbs UP!BTW--no need to pay $30+ to pick up all the songs on this album.Get them all in this CD--http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00305ICHK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1And save a few bucks!

Hip jazz
That theme, along with some ultra hip jazz. Sound quality of the CD is interesting - the instrumentation is clear but there's a definite crackle on the recording suggesting it's recorded from an LP rather than masters.
