Silica is also used as a pH up like the brand name product.However, if you are applying to garden soils the microbiology in the soil should regulate the pH in the rhizosphere... So, in this case, no it does not. In indoor xponics or soilless mediums, it most definitely needs to be set to a correct pH range for the plants being grown. Hope this helps."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"I have used botaninicare for a while now. But this is my first time useing silica blast. Is it normal to have white particles fresh out of the bottle?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"I have always been able to see the little silicate particles fresh out of the bottle. However if you are seeing what appears to be what I call \"globules\" then it is fair to say that the product is old and has had some settling and weird molecular bonding going on. I have seen the globules form after the jugs have been sitting for about six months. I always used to buy 5 gallon jugs to take advantage of the savings but I have noticed a shelf life of about six months for botanicare stuff and I don't use enough product to get through the big jugs in that time frame so i started ordering smaller quantities. I hope this helps."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What does it acually do for your plant?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Growing indoors under lights requires the grower to provide as many of the nutrients found inthe natural environment as possible. Silica is one of them. Results would depend on what you're growing, and what you want to harvest. If you're growing in soil, you might not need it. Hydro grow, you will need it. If I remember correctly, silica helps the plant heal from the natural movement of being in a outdoor environment. Hardy stalks, bark, and things like that. Silica is one of those things that can be a hole in an otherwise good collection of base nutrients. Will you be able to see any difference? Don't know. I added it when I upgraded all my nutes, so I can't be sure of specific results. The master growers I follow always use it, so I do. Hope this helps."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"i have a photoperiod marijuana seed to add this 1st before the calmag and my foxfarm 3 pack nutrient bottles, give me a schedule when to start each 1?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"If u have the trio you shouldnt need calmag or silica. Usually if your seeing this deficiency its a PH problem. Those three have everything you need for an entire grow."}}]}]}
