Product Gives the Expected Result
My Vinyl Shutters were about 7 years old and we're a bit faded, but we're not flaking or oxidized to any great degree. I followed the cleaning instructions precisely. I used an expensive paint brush as per instructions. I believe that is essential part necessary to a perfect result. After the first the shutters looked new again. I then put a second coat for good measure. I highly recommend this product and believe if the directions are followed you will have the result you will be satisfied with.

Absolutely unbelievable improvement
If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. My house has cranberry-colored shutters without louvers, and they were 11 years old and badly streaked with oxidation. Cleaning the shutters took some time until I developed a system. I'm not sure how effective the cleaner is. It didn't seem to do much until I used the 5 to 1 dilution recommended for stained shutters and combined it with a steel scouring pad from the local dollar store. The recommended soft brush and solution wasn't making much progress. The instructions say to clean the shutters until scraping them with your fingernail produces no result. It took me two or three washes per shutter to achieve that. At this point, the shutters looked only a little less dreadful than they did when I began cleaning. Once they dry completely, you "paint" them with Shutter Renu. This part is simple and took less than 15 minutes per shutter. Each shutter uses less than a quarter cup of Shutter Renu. The trick is to use a larger brush and load it with a tiny bit of the solution to minimize foaming and frothing in the corners. A little goes a loooooong way. At first, the shutters looked almost purple. They dried to touch in 30 minutes, and VOILA! They looked like they'd just come out of the box, even restored to the original color. I expected to see more fading, especially since reds tend to fade so much, so I was shocked at the restoration. Our neighbor wandered over to take a look and was equally impressed. I can't speak to the longevity of this system yet, but it supposedly lasts up to ten years. If I get even five years out of this treatment, it's worth it. For less than the cost of a pair of new shutters, not to mention the annoyance of replacing them and the waste of ditching shutters every ten years, I have beautiful shutters again that give my house a real facelift. My jaw literally dropped when I stepped back to take a look after application. This product completely solved the problem at my house! Update: Eight months later, and the shutters still look as beautiful as the day I Renued them. They were so pretty for the holidays! Update March 2026: TWELVE YEARS later, and it's time to refurbish the shutters again this year. They don't look bad, just showing a little wear. I will be using Shutter Renu again for certain. It's a day of hard work for twelve years of beautiful.

Shutters look better than new ones! House looks fantastic! Worth every penny!-Updated review after a year!
I am updating my review from a year ago (listed below). A year has come and gone and my shutters still look fantastic! I wish everything I buy would exceed expectations the way this stuff does. I am so impressed with it that I decided to update my review after a year of living with the results. You will not be disappointed. (Previous review) I am beyond amazed! I bought this a year before I got around to using it. I was half expecting it to no longer work due to chemical breakdown. My shutters were 14 years old and had never been painted or treated. I had had the house pressure washed a year ago and whatever cleaner they used, dulled the finish of the shutters. While mine still looked better than most in the neighborhood because they don't get direct sun, they were faded. I was content to leave them alone until someone bought the house across the street and painted their shutters the same color as mine. That really made mine look poor in comparison. The type of shutters the builder used on all the homes in the neighborhood are no longer available, so that left me with two options: paint or try to find new shutters of approximately the same size and pay to have them professionally installed. I saw all the reviews for this product and figured I had nothing to lose but $80. I cleaned them with the cleaning solution in the morning and then in the afternoon started to apply the Renu Restorer. I was careful to avoid bubbles based on other reviewers' advice. I only had 4 shutters so by the time I finished the fourth shutter, it was time to apply a second coat on the first shutter. (Renu recommends waiting 30 minutes between coats). Since I only had 4 shutters I went ahead and applied 3 coats. With each coat the appearance improved. Well, not only do they look better than the freshly painted shutters across the street, they look better than they did when they were new. I half expected them to lose their luster after a few days or the recent hard rains, but NO they still look fantastic. I have actually gone out several times and stood in my front yard to admire them. I can't believe how much the appearance of my house was improved. I know it is warrantied for ten years but if the effect lasts half that long I will consider myself to have gotten my money's worth. In fact I will probably apply this every 3 years just to keep them looking so fantastic. One unexpected bonus. I had leftover cleaner. Fourteen years ago I foolishly used duct tape to attach Christmas lights to the white columns on my porch. The residue is still there despite multiple efforts to clean it off with a wide variety of cleaners. Even pressure washing didn't remove it. I figured I would have to hire someone to paint over the stains and the tape residue. Just for fun I tried the leftover cleaner and WOW! The residue and old stains came right off and the columns look as good as they did when the house was built. I also touched up stained areas on the vinyl siding that the pressure washing did not remove and it made the siding look brand new. I have already started recommending it to my neighbors. This is great stuff!

Looks great restored
so while I have restored the shutters with this product, and they look great! i still would like to see how they hold up to the weather. I used two coats, making sure I wiped the excess off with a microfiber cloth. Definately make sure you clean them correctly to remove the dirt and oxidation. I choose this product over painting or buying new ones, as the product advertises a 10+ year longevity.

My shutters look like brand new now.
My faux shutters were looking old and dingy, totally losing their color and sheen. This product rejuvenated them so they look brand new.

Not impressed
I was not impressed. It is way too much work for very little improvement.

Don't expect new shutters BUT.....UPDATE!
with all the rave reviews, I was very disappointed with the results. We have a dark maroon (cranberry) colored shutters that are about 10 yrs or so old and very faded. Going very carefully by instructions, I washed and scrubbed the shutters, hosed them thoroughly and allows to dry completely. After re reading all the instructions I did another 3 sets of shutters and had MUCH better results. Mine are raised panel cranberry colored vinyl and were very chalky looking. This time I cleaned them twice and used a stronger concentration of cleaner to water and use fine steel wool. I let the cleaner sink in for a few minutes and them scrubbed them but not too hard as to scratch them. Once fully dry, I added the first coat, let dry an hour or so and added a second. That did it. They did look almost new with a nice sheen to them. So I'm upping this to 5 stars. Very happy this time. Applying the actual restorer is very straight forward but quite difficult not to get any bubbles as this stuff tends to foam up a bit. After the one coat, it was clear it wasn't enough. So I did a second and even a third coat but still had that chalky haze we were trying to get rid of. It does add a sheen to the shutters and definitely makes them look "better" but it certainly doesn't make them look like new by any stretch of the imagination. Very expensive for the disappointing results.

Prepare to be amazed!
My wife had been wanting to repaint our badly oxidized plastic shutters for some time. Over ten years of getting full sun from the afternoon until it set in the west, left the wineberry-colored shutters very chalky looking. I was dreading trying to paint them, even though they were the panel type rather than having slats, but I've read the paint can make the woodgrain pattern kind of flat looking. I had read something about a product that could supposedly "rejuvenate" plastic shutters, so went searching for it. I found it in this product. We both worked on the first floor shutters without removing them from the house, and to just try out the product. We were both very impressed with the outcome. But, these shutters were protected by a large porch overhang, so weren't as bad as the second floor ones. On to the second floor...I removed them for safety (too much work to use the cleaner and apply the restoring chemical, while on the porch roof or ladder). These were the bad ones...they were literally an off-white in some areas because of the oxidation. After cleaning, then applying the restoring solution, we were once again amazed. They looked virtually brand new! Even a neighbor stopped by to ask if we were replacing our shutters with new ones. He had just spent almost $150 dollars for only 4 new plastic shutters, and was also astounded that we had just restored 14 existing shutters for about 70 bucks. Short of replacing shutters, nothing will beat the results of this. The cleaning is a bit of labor, but it really isn't bad. DO pay heed to the warnings about making sure about not leaving excess restoration chemical on the shutters, as it will dry white. We kept q-tips handy to get into tight crevices to remove any excess. Afterwards, let them dry. That's it! With the satisfaction guarantee, there is nothing to lose. My wife was hugely skeptical at first, but now even she has recommended this to her friends. There are mostly high reviews for Shutter Renu...and for good reason. In a world of products making all sorts of miraculous claims and then falling sadly short of the hype, here is a product that lives up to the advertising.
