Bertie County: An Eastern Carolina History (NC) (Making of America)

This is an interesting and detailed little book. I would recommend it highly but the text is filled with footnote (or endnote) reference numbers, but the notes are nowhere to be found in the book. I sent the author an email at his current university, but got no response. Very disappointing, as many of the statements deserve follow up in the absent footnotes.

Dr. Smallwood's painstakingly thorough research is a solid treasure trove and well-delineated roadmap to Bertie County history! I was so impressed with the depth of this book that I will encourage my family as well as extended family members to read this important work in its entirety. Then, comes reflecting on the implications and how it relates to our common heritage.

I was searching for family names without any luck, however I did find the history of the area very interesting

Interesting reading of early history of Bertie County.
