The Browning High-Power Pistol (Weapon, 73)

The lasting utility of a good design...
The Browning High-Power pistol has enjoyed a long service, from its origins prior to the Second World War down to the present day. John Browning, designer of the long-lived M1911 .45 for the U.S. Army, was the main contributor to the Browning High-Power, which has undergone a variety of modifications over the years. Author Leroy Thompson has the story in this Osprey Weapon Series book. This concise book covers the development, combat use, and impact of the Browning High-Power. The text is nicely supported with lots of period and modern photographs and illustrations, including sequences showing its use. The narrative is brisk and informed by the author's personal and professional experiences. Well-recommended to students of military small arms.

an ok reference
This is an ok reference. It is a little on the light side. I bought it because the author claimed this book has a section on select fire variants but the author posted a LOT more information on select fire variants in other publications and articles and this book had very little. In my opinion this is a filler book, and not a must have.

Great history of the BHP
For a really good introduction to the High Power it is probably difficult to beat this. It may be that this is as far as you want to go and that would be fine but for many, including me, it may be just a launchpad foundation to find out more about this amazing pistol.

Good general purpose reference text
Like all the books in this series, well written with a good mixture of historical context and technical info.

Excellent
An excellent "pamphlet" book on this legendary pistol, and highly recommended.
