is the filter ok for betta fish? who don't like the water to move much

Old but good question. Short answer is no! It is too powerful of a current. My betta would lay around most of the time cause he was tired of fighting the current. I put a homemade baffle on the filter to divert the water out the sides and he loves it. I am in the process of moving to a sponge filter instead. You can search for diy water filter baffles on google to learn more.

Is the pump quiet on this tank? My tank will be in a bedroom and it needs to be quiet.

The aquarium is in my bedroom. The pump is extremely quiet. Frankly, for the price of this little aquarium, I am surprised at the quality. Well worth your money!

Is the filter separate from the aquarium? In other words, could I change out the filter with a different filter than the one that comes in the kit?

Yes, the filter system just hangs over and suction cups to the side.

I need to replace the filter. Where can I get that?

The filter and it's filter insert that comes with this tank is not so great (is pretty well known); *Highly suggest running Aquarium Co-op's sponge filter (their nano size) in this 2.5 tank; can place an airstone inside the sponge filter itself to make the bubbles finer (the airstone they also carry); their sponge filter blog shows how to set up; can run using an adjustable air pump or placing what is called an air control valve along the airline tubing if the air pump is not adjustable
