It's not only beautiful to look at, but it's art for your soul.
I only became familiar with this style of prayer about three years ago. Wanting to explore it deeper, I was thrilled to find this devotional complete with the images and the prayer prompts. This isn't a style of prayer meant to rush through. This prayer time is contemplative by allowing the image to act as a catalyst during your meditation. I never thought I could have a loving and meaningful time of prayer by looking at art image of a rusty nail, or a squirrel, or a painting of Christ asleep in the boat. The author has taken careful consideration to choose images and prompts which take you on a spiritual journey. I will admit I've only done 2 so far. I have another prayer journal I'm finishing. I want to devote one solid month to using this journal so I stopped myself, but it was hard to do so! My soul craved to continue. But, I don't want to rush this process. If you are looking for a new way to encounter God through prayer, I highly suggest this prayer journal.

Way beyond art appreciation
I loved my art appreciation class in college, and I have used some of those skills through the years when confronted with fine art. Therese Kay's Meeting God through Art: Visio Divina takes the viewer the next step on the journey through art into the mind and heart of God. Using images from the Met, Kay invites the seeker to look deeply and listen in meditation to the message that comes---and it will. Her introductory material and further help in the appendices give a solid, well-researched foundation for this ancient method of contemplation. I plan to share this book with my centering prayer group and all my spiritual friends, whether they be church-going Christians or not. We all crave a way to hear God's voice more clearly.

An Inspirational Resource
Meeting God Through Art: Visio Divina. – A Guided Prayer Journal with Images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a new book by Therese Kay. This book accompanied me on my recent retreat and inspired me to explore various art and images God invited me into with him that week. This book is a great resource for this practice as she clearly explains the process in easy steps, addresses challenges, and provide many amazing paintings for inspiration. After each painting, there is journal space with prayers and prompts to add depth to your conversation with God. Questions such as What did you notice in this image? What emotions, memories, thoughts or question come up? What scriptures come to mind? Where do you see God in this image?Praying with art is a reflective practice that slowed me down, helped me listen, and experience peace and new perspective in my relationship with the Lord. This book will be a great companion for your time of prayer

I love this devotional!
I love this devotional! It is helping me break some new, fresh ground - as an English teacher and all around literature buff, I am very language focused, and opening the door to letting God speak to me through visual images has been refreshing. The book includes high quality images of everything from stained glass to paintings to metalwork. The questions gave me structure as I worked with a mode of prayer that is unfamiliar. This would also make a lovely and unique gift.

Disappointed
Wanted to get examples for use with students and in my own spiritual life. There’s not enough here to be of help and some of the narration is “iffy” in its theology.

Meeting God Through Art
Meeting God Through Art is a prayer journal by author Therese Kay. As I glance through this beautiful journal the first thing I notice is the beautiful images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.Then settling in to work through the journal I am impressed by the calmness I feel as I respond to the simple questions, and listen to God speaking to me. I also enjoy the simple meditation suggested with each picture.Much thought and preparation have gone into the writing of this journal and I look forward to my continued use of it. This is not a journal the reader would want to rush through, but listen for God’s voice as you work through it.I see it as a tool to prepare my heart for time with the Lord. I recommend it to any Christian who wants a closer walk with the Lord.Disclaimer: I receive complimentary books from various sources, including, publishers, publicists, authors, and/or NetGalley. A go-to resource for a beautifu,l deep discernment of God's message in your life
As a liturgical artist and Spiritual Director, I am always looking for resources like this. So many seekers need the visual stimulation of beautiful art to help them delve deeper into the nudges from the Holy Spirit. The design of the journal begins with beautiful, thought-provoking art. It is a "from the brain to the heart" experience that has no rules or boundaries, only avenues to deeper contemplation and discernment. Therese explains that one may pick this up as needed, or use it as a daily devotional. This is visio divina taken to a new and exciting level
