Where do you insert the 4 batteries? I only see room for 2?

We will be happy to clear the confusion. The battery holder in the battery compartment comes out of the unit. It allows for 4 batteries to be installed in a square formation. Would this fan be too weak for smokers smell and people who don't take baths? I work for public and need a small fan that is battery operated.

Yes, it is rather weak and does not oscillate. It will not disperse unpleasant odors. It is a personal-size fan--it only gives you a little air movement when things get stuffy or fetid : ).

where can I just buy the cord??

My original cable broke and I needed a replacement, I picked up a MEROM Universal 5V DC Power Cable, USB to DC 5.5x2.1mm Plug Charging Cord and it worked great and fit right in.
