Twice rated the top chisels by "Fine Woodworking" magazine, these Matsumura Blue Steel Chisels are well balanced and a pleasure to use. Blue steel is a more complex steel than white steel with added elements to increase hardness and durability - particularly important in hard and abrasive woods such as teak and exotic hardwoods. For over 200 years the Matsumura family has had a reputation for supplying only the best quality chisels. The current Matsumura began over 60 years ago to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He continues to live and work at the family home located in the small mountain village of Yoiita, where with the occasional assistance of his wife, each chisel is hammer forged by hand from a combination of special Hitachi blue steel and wrought iron. After curing in charcoal for several days, each chisel is individually tempered to Rockwell c65. A hand turned best quality Japanese Red Oak handle with hand forged iron hoops is added to the blade. Over 40 separate processes are required to complete each chisel. Overall length is 9? and blade length is 2-1/4?. Instructions for care and sharpening are included.
