Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Homura's Revenge!, Vol. 1 (Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Homura's Revenge, 1)

Maybe
I bought this along with Homura Tamura Vol.1, and I think I enjoyed Homura Tamura more. Granted, that one is more lighthearted and makes you laugh. Homura's Revenge's plot seems almost fanfiction-y, wherein Homura winds back in time once more but this time with Madoka and Kyubey in tow. I suppose you could think of it as one of the many time loops Homura was in before Madoka ascends? Mixed feelings for this first book - I know that the original (and even some spin offs) story was quite dark, but frankly this one made me feel down in a slightly different way that borders disappointment. Yet at the same time, I suppose you can't help but want to root for the main characters when everything goes wrong. Not a bad read I suppose, and decent art.

Fun but Frustrating
First off, you'll need to read/watch the original in order to understand this one. This comic explores another alternate timeline, this time with Madoka having knowledge as to what Homura has gone through. A lot of the comic's strengths lie with Homura, as it dives into what she's thinking about, and shows us how her knowledge of alternate timelines is useful yet limited, causing her trouble when she tries to anticipate and prepare for events. There are quite a few moments which help show again, why Homura is so distant from the other girls. Without spoiling too much, there's also a really cool team-up introduced towards the end that fans of the original might be excited to see.At the same time, the comic isn't so good when it comes to seeing the idea out. Once again the girls don't communicate, leading to disaster that's easily avoidable. Obviously this timeline won't work out considering it's not the canon ending, but it would have been nice to see the characters act more competent than this. It also doesn't seem to know what sort of tone it wants- the premise is based upon Homura getting an idea... in a really silly manner. Humor shouldn't be avoided, but the way this comic goes about it, it undermines it's more serious moments. The artwork is in the same style as the original (but a different artist). It's clean, easy to read and expressive without being too cartoony, which is nice, but it's also nothing to be too excited about.Overall, it has some nice ideas and explores Homura's character, but can feel frustrating due to characters not communicating or acting rationally. Fans who want to see more of the original characters, more Homura character development, and more information on her rewind power will find things to like in this.

love this series
I bought this used for a bit cheaper and Im very impressed by the condition it was in. Ive bought used books and manga before and could definitely tell that it was used, but this was in great condition almost new. I really appreciate that.As for the story I love it so far. I was shocked when I began reading it that this time Madoka actually remembers everything. Ive only read the first volume so there is nothing much I can say until I read all 3.

Buy it for the art, story is a bit weak
The artwork is mostly what sells this story; it's extremely good. Other than maybe the Rebellion adaptation, this might be the best-drawn spinoff. Fight scenes are vibrant and beautiful.Unfortunately, the story is fueled mostly by very irritating misunderstandings. The original had that, too, but there are plenty of times where you will want to smack Madoka and say "just tell them you're a time traveler already." Many of the conflicts feel forced and characters tend to act like jerks at the drop of a hat. Homura is fairly in-character, at least, but everyone else feels somewhat OOC and exaggerated from the original series - Madoka in particular is far too much of a doormat, considering this is supposed to be a post-series version. It also frequently seems unsure of whether to diverge from canon or not, and will often exploit deus ex machina to make a canonical thing happen. The story picks up a bit in its second half, when it seemingly becomes more confident about its AU status and starts actually diverging from canon. If it keeps up this trend, the second volume will probably be downright good, but as is, Homura's Revenge feels frustratingly average. There is potential here, but it's not being utilized.

I thought this was going to be more of a funny adaptation, but it actually is turning out to be quite dark as the original. Can't wait for the next volume! Not giving it a full 5 stars just because I haven't read all 3 volumes yet.

Ok.
Pretty much a retelling of the anime but some divergence here and there as Homura tries to change the fates of the other magical girls while Kyubey tries to interfere.

A great series!
A great story from a different angle. Totally worth the read, if only to see Homura's perspective on the action.

Amazing
An exciting chapter of magical madoka but seen from the vision of Homura and Madoka

At first, just from the cover, i believed it would be a comedic spinoff of the Madoka franchise and it certainly was going that direction in the begining but as the story progresses we realise it slowly goes into the same mood as the orignal story, only with key plots points changing drastically.

Don't expect a better story than the original, but it will certainly quench your thirst for PMMM related stories.

Can the plot of PMMM be averted? Time to find out
So here's a question. What would happen if the plot of Puella Magi Madoka Magica was turned on its head with characters having knowledge of all the events to come? Well this spin-off series asks that question and runs with it.I can't really talk too much into the plot here because not only would it spoil the entire franchise to anyone yet to see the original smash hit but it would spoil the twists, of which there are still many, of this series. All I can say on this one is that it is continuing the series almost trademark dark themes.
