When getting up is so hard to do, Clocky, I need you!
I have been using Clocky for 11 months and cannot imagine going back to a traditional alarm that is easily defeated. Clocky is accurate and reliable. I know the time at a glance. Clocky is easy to use. The 6 control buttons are clearly marked and intuitive. Clocky is a marvel of industrial design. It is unique and hard to categorize. It could be Retro, or Avantgarde, or cool, or geeky. For me Clocky is the perfect design for a mobility alarm clock. Clocky's wheels are large, giving the clock body adequate ground clearance to run around the room daring me to catch it, while mocking my lethargy with quirky noises, words, songs and R2D2-like beeps. I like that I have to chase Clocky to silence the alarm, and I like the alarm. It is quirky and whimsical and just loud enough not to be ignored. If getting up is hard, Clocky will make it easier. It has for me for 11 months now.

Nice Basic Robot
I needed help. I like to sleep, and sometimes things like work get in the way of my sleeping. In general I enjoy alarm clocks of various sorts. Rather, I should say, I have had alarm clocks of various sorts, since I get used to them and then I just turn them off and go back to sleep. I would get to the point that I could get up, walk across the room, turn off the alarm clock, and go back to bed. Or I would just hear the alarm and ignore it until it stopped. With some alarm clocks this can take 10-20 minutes. This is the mark of a true professional Sleeper, like myself. When Clocky arrived, I was skeptical, but the little robot looked quite friendly. With the operating manual, everything was simple enough, and easily programmed. Clocky came to me all the way from China, but he was the genuine article. I set him down on the bureau in my bedroom. "Hello, Clocky!" I said. He was silent. "Clocky, is the alarm active?" Still, no reply. He was not very friendly to start out. Very quiet. Not like Siri. I double checked him, and everything seemed to be operating properly though. Well, the next morning at 5 am, he suddenly broke the silence. My god, he was speaking in tongues at top volume. The constant variation in tone, pitch, and pattern was disconcerting, even ... alarming. I literally leapt out of bed and walked over to where the little robot was whirling about. A gentle pat on the head soothed him instantly, and he quieted down. I went back to sleep promptly, only to be awakened mere minutes later when he let out another series of cacophonous wails. Again I ran over to him. Now he had hopped down on the floor, and had got part way under the bed. This time I picked him up firmly and poked him in the right eye. He quieted down in a hurry. I was wide awake now, heart racing. I could almost hear Clocky saying: And why consider the mote that is in my eye, but not the log in your own? He was quite right. I got up to face the day. The little robot has fast become an essential member of the household. No matter how many times his alarm awakens me, I never become accustomed to it. On one occasion, after jumping from the bureau, he developed a rattle, but a quick disassembly proved it to be a loose fleck of solder that had broken off, and all connections were in perfect order. Except for his piercing wail in the morning, he remains taciturn, but I think now this simply reflects his serious nature.

Don't.... just don't
I JUST WROTE A WHOLE REVIEW AND THE APP QUIT ON ME SO Y'ALL ARE GETTING THE TLDR VERSION OK I AM NOTORIOUS FOR SLEEPING THROUGH ALARMS SO PLEASE TRUST ME ON THIS: -do not waste your money or time -it worked for a couple months than crapped out on me (the interface started seeming a bit different and glitchy, and then the alarm itself stopped working, it would start the alarm tone at the correct time but after like 0.5seconds the noise would turn off and just end the alarm) -even though it did work, the way it woke me up made me so grumpy and angry that I would go back to sleep on purpose bc I could not start my day like that -it literally corroded the batteries in a matter of just a few months.... I've never seen that happen before unless the batteries have been in the device for years -currently am trying out the JALL wake-up light alarm thing and I like it so far, it has more features, (i think it could use a few more but im high maintenance) it uses not only noise to wake you up but also manipulates your natural sleep/wake cycle (circadian rhythm->pineal gland->melatonin->ecetera) to allow for a more peaceful awakening. AGAIN, COMING FROM A NOTORIOUS ALARM-SLEEPER-THROUGHER: I'm not joking the brightness of the light makes a chemical difference in your brain to help you wake up easier (and trust me on this bc I spent years learning crap like this with my bio/human science major and psych minor) so I guess this isn't TLDR REALLY but if you wanna join me on my search for the perfect alarm and want to SKIP THIS USELESS STEP, you can meet me at the next step with the Jall wake up alarm thing with the bright light and we can suffer through this together

Neat & effective
My quick review... it's much smaller than i thought it would be...i don't know why, but personally, from the pictures it always seemed like it would be a clunker...it's actually rather small & quaint!...and the almond color makes it somewhat elegant-looking. i did not have problems with the battery compartment as others did... it's a slight inconvenience to have to use a screwdriver to replace the batteries, but at the same time i can feel assured knowing that the batteries will remain securely in place... as far as the main reason you would purchase this item, here's my take: when the alarm goes off.. 1) it doesn't "run" far from you 2) it makes neat "R2D2" noises at a pretty decent volume (would be rather difficult for the average person to sleep through) 3) it's difficult to locate the snooze button quickly while it's moving/beeping, and 4) it's difficult to locate the tiny button to turn the alarm off while it's moving/beeping. ...BUT--these are all GOOD things!!... it means you have to actually be somewhat conscious and focus your mind a bit in order to turn the darn thing off...so even though you don't have to chase it very far, after you've grabbed it, it's the process of turning it off that actuallywakes you up!...(at least that's the way mine worked)...and at that point, you're now somewhat awake and therefore more likely to stay up than try to go back to sleep!!...hence, Clocky has done its job! (FYI Sidenote: my Clocky takes about a 3-foot drop from a dresser next to my bed onto a carpeted floor) the caveat here is that obviously everyone's sleep patterns/behaviors are different... If it helps, here's my personal "sleep background:" i typically leave the house by 7:00-7:30a M-F for work...i have ALWAYS had a hard gime getting up in the a.m. & also have a sleeping disorder which exascerbates things..i have tried many different methods over the years (some technical, some traditional) to try & help me get up on time...i even bought (& later returned) the $175 SleepTracker Pro watch, but it did not help me (it was quiet, i was still tired when i woke up, and it was way too easy to turn the thing off and go right back to sleep). another good thing about Clocky is that you can only snooze once....that's another part of my problem: i always snooze...as i describe it: the nightime "me" says "i'll allow myself to snooze once--and only once--in the a.m."...however, the morning "me" throws that right out the window without remorse and snoozes repeatedly-- on at least one occasion, i snoozed repeatedly for 2+ hours... realize that all of the opinions i've offered above stem from one use thusfar...today was my first morning waking up with Clocky...however, i have to say i'm surprisingly optimistic about "him" helping me with my recurring problem. i actually forgot to re-enable the snooze function last night, so i was extra confused this morning, but tomorrow i will begin my first real "standard" usage of it... if my opinion of Clocky later depreciates upon further useage, i will update this review accordingly. hope this helps.

Clocky works as described unfortunately
I can't stand Clocky., can't stand it! My son bought him with his own money. He works perfectly. Clocky rolls off the table and sounds like a loud R2-D2. He rolls around until you get up to turn him off. It's Saturday and my son forgot to turn off the alarm so we could sleep in. Clocky woke me up from across the house. If you have trouble waking up and want be woken up from a peaceful REM sleep to a loud R2-D2 rolling around the room then Clocky is for you. My son loves Clocky. He thinks it's hilarious that Clocky gives me a heart attack in the morning. It works how it's described. I bought coverage but unfortunately Clocky won't break..

No volume control, too loud for migraineur
I was hoping there would be an option to adjust the alarm volume, I am easily prone to migraines and it reaches a high frequency pitch and very loud volume that are physically painful and a risk to cause a migraine, especially on a bad morning if I'm dealing with other migraine triggers. Not everyone's "loudest" volume is the same, and I would like a product to trust its customers to see to their own needs--I'm buying it because I want it to annoy me, so if I had set the volume too low and it didn't wake me, that would be on me. However, I'm buying it to annoy me, not to hurt me. Also, the snooze button didn't really work, i stabbed it as hard as possible and it just kept screaming so I had to use the alarm on/off button. I may have just gotten a defective unit though. The written instructions could do with a bit better labeling on the diagram, for instance the button which is physically marked on the device with an "A" is helpfully labeled on the instructions as just... "A". It would make setup faster if it labeled it as "alarm", similarly for the "T", "H", "M", and most importantly it would have been helpful to have the image icon buttons labeled with what they are. The little tiny embossed bell icon and the circle icon are not immediately intuitive as to what they are, but they're referred to by name in the written instructions as the "alarm" button and the "wheels" button. Not life-breakingly difficult, but if the manufacturer wants to optimize their instruction manual, these are my suggestions. If you have vision problems, the button letters/icons are very tiny and are simply embossed, they are not marked in ink, so that may or may not be a dealbreaker for you. Ideally it would be helpful if the backlight could be tapped to light up, I think tapping the snooze button may do that though. As with all modern electronics, the LED backlight is a bright blue, so it's good for waking you up but not great if you just want to check the time during the night--again, maybe not a dealbreaker for you. I know it would increase the cost of production to add an RGB adjustment function, that would be cool to have though. I am very pleased that the display numbers themselves are just LCD with a backlight rather than always-on LED numbers, that's not common to find and is a preference for me. The battery compartment lid is very fiddly and it makes it annoying to change the batteries, it would be much easier to use if it had a click-in-place latch that you can then screw closed rather than just a screw closure. The wheels have a rubberized coating, and it does indeed zoom around chaotically very well. It's well weighted to right itself and keep the display upright.
