Effective for my athlete's foot.
I use this for athlete's foot and, buying by the pack, it's much, much cheaper. It does the trick.

Great for fungal matters...
Years ago... I had a hobby that kept me on my feet for 12 or more hours a day. We would set up the show, sweat down, then proceed. At the end of the day, I would be as I thought, raw, from chafing. I had to waddle when I walked, it was so painful. I waddled into a pharmacy looking for a remedy. The pharmacist saw me waddling and told me it was not chaffed... but rather I had a fungus down "there". She advised that the moisture from the sweat, would be held by underwear, which made a great breeding ground for fungus. She recommended Clotrimazole Anti Fungal Cream, 1% USP. I used this since and "waddle" no more. It also works the same way in the armpits. Great stuff!!!

What Does Southwest Florida Have In Common With Vietnam?
The answer is constant heat and humidity. When I finally went to see my podiatrist for treatment of my toenail fungus he asked me if I ever went to Vietnam. Fortunately I had a 4F (physical) deferment and never made that trip. My hat is off to anyone who did. I was destined to go because the very first draft lottery matching my birth date came up as number 30 -- guaranteed to go! Since our family has always served in the military, I read a lot of books about Vietnam and the various hazards encountered there. One of the biggest constant problems was proper care and protection of everyone's feet. The jungle was hot, wet, and humid, and combat boots were the choice for protective wear. Unfortunately your feet didn't breathe well in combat boots and clean socks were almost nonexistent. The result was persistent athlete's foot which was commonly called "jungle rot". Southwest Florida has the same climate as Vietnam and I also choose to wear combat boots when working outside. I have structurally weak ankles (hence the 4F deferment) and have already suffered through two osteotomies. In addition we have several varieties of biting insects, poisonous snakes, and plants that seem to exist just to hurt you. Wearing good boots is very important. So my podiatrist informed me that not only did I have toenail fungus, but the fungus had also progressed up the bottom and sides of both feet. Rather than buy his $82.00 package of nonprescription fungus treatment, I elected to order this Clotrimazole, virtually the same medicine we used as kids when we played basketball in high top tennis shoes. Yes you have to follow the directions and yes, it takes quite a while for the medicine to work, but work it does (slowly) as long as you follow the treatment directions. And it's a lot cheaper than $82.00.

this slow-acting fungistatic cream is only as effective as patients are compliant
I bought this product for my parents (one of whom is diabetic) several weeks ago because they both have moccasin-type athlete's foot, so this review is probably most relevant to those looking to treat the same. Background: Clotrimazole is a first generation over-the-counter antifungal that is fungistatic (it interrupts membrane development of growing fungal cells), but it is not fungicidal. Consequently, it requires a long treatment time of four weeks. Additionally, in order to maintain therapeutic levels of the drug in the area of treatment, the cream must be applied twice daily (though three times per day is preferable). It is well-tolerated by most patients and can be obtained inexpensively. It does have a lower cure rate than newer generation drugs. However, this may be attributed to the cumbersome, four-week long treatment time and increased challenge of achieving full patient compliance. If you are more price-sensitive than you are time-sensitive AND diligent about applying this cream 2-3 times daily for the full course of treatment, this cream is probably an acceptable option for you. However, more expensive products with shorter treatment times do require less product comparatively, so remember to factor the full cost of treatment in your calculation (not just cost per tube). Returning to the case study on my parents: I just this evening had the displeasure of learning that they have been extremely lax about applying this product regularly despite my unequivocal emphasis upon giving it to them that they follow treatment instructions exactly. In response, I explained to them the fungistatic-NOT-fungicidal nature of the product (and why it is therefore a complete waste of product when they just apply it willy nilly) in hopes that their understanding will improve their compliance. I'm going to buy another 5-pack for each of them, and, if it is not successful this time, then I will try them on topical terbinafine, which is also effective against moccasin-type athlete's foot. (Terbinafine is a second generation over-the-counter antifungal that is fungicidal, so it requires a shorter treatment time of only 2 weeks. As with clotrimazole, the cream needs to be applied twice daily.) As a last resort, if neither the clotrimazole or terbinafine creams are effective, then I will likely insist that they obtain a prescription for oral terbinafine, which is taken once daily for four weeks.
