It Doesn't Get Better Than This
As I sit here typing this review, I have my wonderful new NBOX on pause. I am so taken with this product that I just had to write. Now, I see that others have glowing reports as well, but I'm not a member of the "younger" set anymore, so to hear from an old gal like me might put another oldster's mind to rest, too. This box was perfect for me. I have a number of drives with old movies and old music and to be frank, I was getting very tired of sitting at the desk to hear/see the files and also the time consuming burning. I just wanted to kick back in bed at night and watch one of my own movies on my own flat screen 36" TV. A conversation came up out of the blue with some friends who had purchased this NBOX and they were thrilled to have it and said it was exactly what I was looking for. Immediately I headed to do internet research and saw wonderful reports. Amazon was carrying it and shipping it from the dealer. Presto, my order was done and in record time (3 days) my NBOX was here and in a matter of minutes it was hooked up and running. It is so easy to hook up, folks. In my case for only wanting to see my movies or listen to my music, I plugged in the power cord, plugged in the hdmi cables and the AV cables and that was it. Then I tried 2 ways of watching my movie. First, I put one movie on a flash stick and voila, it worked like a charm. Then, saving even more time, I had some movies on a little external drive and so plugged that into the USB on the NBOX, and presto, perfection! If an old gal like myself can hook this up in a blink, so can you -- and isn't it the most wonderful thing not to have sit and sit and sit at the computer! Oh, and one last thing: Eric, the dealer, sent me a personal email saying if I had any trouble at all to contact him and he'd take care of it. Now you tell me, what company does that these days?! My hat is off to them and they have my vote all the way. In fact, I told my neighbors about this fabulous NBOX and now they have ordered it, too. Eric, your company and your product is the BEST. Thank you so much! And now I'm going to take my NBOX off of pause and finish watching my movie in glorious, crisp, color. Many thanks forever :D___________________________________________________Well, that review was written in March, 2011, and it is now December, 2012. I wanted to update my review in case there was anyone that wondered how this product fared way down the road. Here's how it did: My NBox gets tons of use and is almost in use more than just the TV. A year and 9 months has gone by and not even a hint of a problem. This great NBox continues to work as if it were brand new. To show you how much I love and trust it, AND the US Distributor, Eric, I ordered another one a month ago for my other TV. It arrived in record time just like the first one did, and was hooked up in a blink. As before, it was perfect, and has been in use ever since. When company comes over to have some dinner and watch a movie, they are always astounded that I didn't have to take the time to burn anything (and that includes the dinner). The NBox is THE most wonderful product to come out in years and years and my neighbors that bought one after seeing mine agree all the way. In fact, they are across the street from me and as I type this, their blinds are open and I can see they are watching a movie by way of their NBox. How do I know? Because they got the movie from me! The NBox is fabulous, takes up no room, is the simplest of media players to install, and plays everything from movies to mp3s to text files and photos. You can't go wrong with this purchase, and as you can tell, after all this time, I am still a die-hard fan. Thank you, NBox! And thank you, Eric, for being the honest and best distributor I've ever dealt with.

So Far, not impressive
I just received the Nbox V3 today and was very excited to hook it up. It was very easy out of the box, HDMI cable (Not included), and power cable (Included obviously). Piece of cake. I did not receive the USB cable mentioned in some reviews that powers 2.5inch external HDs, but the 2 HDs I had worked with their original cables. I have the Seagate FreeAgent Go 1TB, and the Western Digital My Passport 1TB drives.I first tried the Western Digital My Passport, plugged in and put on my 1080p Batman (1989) original version and played about 5 minutes of it. No problems. The file format is MKV and the file size was about 13.7GB. I have my system hooked up on a 7.1 surround sound with DTS Yamaha receiver and Onkyo speakers, but for some reason the audio on the file was only using 5.1. Weird, maybe it doesn't support 7.1? I have to keep playing with it, but even at 5.1 it's ok. BTW, I know the 7.1 works with the file because before I got this system I have been playing my MKV videos with my Alienware laptop hooked up with HDMI, and ran with VLC player. It was a good format but I couldn't use my laptop while watching anything so I had to get something else. Anyhow, I decided to try a different movie. This time also a MKV format movie, but in 720p format, Source Code, file size 4.37GB. This time it wouldn't start the file at all, it recognized it as a video file but it stayed on the load screen for about 3 minutes before I stopped it. Funny thing is once I had hit the home button to go back to the main screen, the NBox would no longer recognize my Western Digital drive. Again, weird. So what I did was unplug the drive and plugged it back in, where it started to work again. Now thinking this was a one time error, I tried the movie again, and of course, same problem. Ok I said to myself, this has got to be my drive or a corrupt file. I went to my server and copied the movie Source Code to my FreeAgent 1TB drive and tried it with that drive. Same thing, doesn't run the movie, but after I hit home, the NBox still recognized the drive so I didn't have to unplug and replug it back in. Don't know the reason for that, but for that reason alone I will probably be using my Seagate FreeAgent drive mainly with the NBox if I decide to keep it.So what I did next was plug my WD Passport to my Dell Vostro 220s home computer to see if there was a problem with the file or drive, and using VLC player, the file played perfectly fine on my home computer. Repeated the steps with the FreeAgent Go drive and it played perfectly fine also on my home computer using VLC.OK, I thought to myself, maybe the NBox doesn't play 720p videos? So I copied over Cedar Rapids at 720p 4.37GB size to my Seagate FreeAgent Go drive and tried that file. Played just fine. Wow, again weird. So now I'm thinking ok, maybe there is something wrong with the movie file Source Code, so I just copied randomly a few more movies over to the FreeAgent drive. Conan the Barbarian 1080p 8.74GB, Fast & Furious 720p 6.54GB, Rio 1080p 6.54GB, Limitless 720p 4.37GB.Ok so after trying all the videos, Limitless and Rio did not work, same problem as Source Code, just kept in loading page for a long time before I stopped it. But Conan the Barbarian and Fast & Furious worked just fine.I am really confused as to what the problem is. All my files are the same MKV file format, all were encoded the same way. Only difference is the 720p or 1080p format, but the NBox has shown to play 1080p and 720p as it played the Original Batman and Fast and Furious, yet it didn't play Rio and Source Code. So it can't be the resolution. I'm going to copy over some more movies to the FreeAgent Drive tonight and see how many files the NBox will play and not play, if it's more that 25% fail rate on the movies, this little thing is going back. But before I started copying movies over, just for $h!ts and giggles, I played a few AVI files and they worked fine. P90X in AVI, and You've Got Mail in AVI both worked flawlessly. So for the price, this thing is pretty cheap at $60, but if it doesn't play 50% of my MKV files, then it makes no sense to keep it for me. Also, I went online to see if there was a firmware update, but on their website at [...] it specifically says there is no firmware update so the few reviewers that said they got it, I would like to see where they got it from.

Worked For 5 Minutes
I bought this unit because of the price. The website said the Nbox did everything I was looking for in a media player. It could play a number of movie files, process a number of video and audio codecs, and also play m2ts bluray files. That sounded great. When I turned it on and played my first m2ts file, it played it fine. Then, after going back to the navigation and playing another movie, the player locked up. After that, it wouldn't access any other movie file. The player would automatically turn off. Looks like something is wrong with the software. Pretty sad because the price is right, $30 less than the other units that do the same thing. The remote kind of sucks. Really small and useless. The interface is pretty weak too. I have a Diamond Multimedia media player but bought this one because it was $30 less and also because Diamond Multimedia customer support is non-existent. Well, looks like I'm returning this Nbox. The software crashed after just 5 minutes of use. Pretty sad. I can't believe companies sell stuff like this.
