You might as well go watch youtube tutorials for free
Returned it for a refund. This is one of those typical "e-published" books... Most of it is marketing copy (a good portion of the book is stuff like "pros and cons of hydroponics" or "myths about hydroponics"), desperate filler text reminiscent of a bad school project (do I really need a separate - but highly repetitive - introductory paragraph for each of the most common garden herbs?), and a few tutorials, the equivalent of which you can readily find on youtube...It mentions growing fruit in hydroculture, but never really gets into the challenge of supporting an actual tree in a hydroponics setup. It covers a number of techniques wikipedia-style, but fails to impart background information and understanding. It is so unedited that two (maybe three?) techniques are subsequently listed as "the most popular hydroponics technology". Add horrid formatting to the mixture, and you've got yourself a "book" that isn't worth the storage space it takes up, let alone its price. When buying a book, even for $2, I expect some insight, some scientific background (what's up with the different root types of plants, some biochemistry for proper fertilizer use, etc.), some practical understanding that demonstrates that the writer is actually writing from deep experience as opposed to putting together a schoolwork on some far off field he's never actually been involved in.Not recommended at all. Not even for $0.

Alternative gardening
When I think of hydroponics in the ancient times, I think of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I was surprised to know through this book that the ancient wonder is indeed an example of hydroponics gardening. At present time, the limited space makes people creative and imaginative. Through enough, hydroponics fit the bill. I have been reading alot about it because I wanted to do some gardening myself. The book presented the types of systems which I can choose from depending on its complexity. The book also provided simple instructions on how to set-up hydroponic system at home which I am looking forward to when I bought this book.Great details and clear instructions that even non gardener can do!

hydroponic silliness
Some useful information but frustrating, plus some awfully silly suggestions. On page 51, for example: "You must always maintain the air temperature around 10 to 15 degrees at night." I assume he means Celsius, which is 50-59 degrees F, but that's a ridiculously narrow range (especially in Texas). Then on page 52: "Always check whether the temperature is 76-80 degrees..." Here I assume he means Fahrenheit, but that range is even narrower. (On page 54 he hints how important it is to use correct units. Go figure.)And how about this tip for visitors from page 56: "Always ask your folks to shower and wear a new set of clothes before they enter your garden."Yeah, right. How about issuing them a bio-hazard suit, too?I could cite several other examples, but why bother? It was hard to take anything seriously after that.

"Always ask your folks to shower and wear a new set of clothes before they enter your garden."
This book does not have any special insight into hydroponics. The information is very basic, it is lacking good diagrams for a DIY projects. It appears to be patched together from different source because recommended temperature is not given consistently either in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The best line in the book is this line that gave me a good laugh "Always ask your folks to shower and wear a new set of clothes before they enter your garden."Ali Julia review

What can you grow Hydroponically
A book where you can get all the information about Hydroponic crops is difficult to achieve. Most of the guides explain superficially what hydroponics is but dont give you the tools when you try to make your own crops. This book is the opposite, Mickey Leavitt comprehensively explains all about irrigation, drainage, drip systems and filters needed for crops to grow in the right way. This book has it all, but I feel that the author writes in a more complex way and many readers could not understand the whole concept. But i totally recommend it

This book is a complete waste of money
This book is a complete waste of money. Mickey Leavitt spent perhaps a day cruising the internet and piecing together the information s/he found--rather poorly written on top of it all. The only reason I didn't return it is because I'm somewhat lazy. But I recommend saving your money and looking on the internet to answer any questions you might have. Either that or purchase Hydroponics for the Home Grower by Howard M. Resh who has done extensive hands on research and has illustrations and tons of information. It's a bit more expensive, but oh so worth it.
