Great value, great watch.. Cost less to maintaine it too..
I just want to add my own comment in regards to this Seiko 5 Automatic watch, since I have read many of these already posted reviews and since some buyers commented too in regards to this product.. The Seiko watches are great watches for the money. Design, Craftsman-ship, Polish, Finish, Dial, Hands, Mechanism itself, Accuracy.. I had over the years many high-in watches including up to Rolex DayJust, Breitling, 3 x Omegas, 3 x Balls, Rado, 3 x Tissots, many many others too, all having ETA movements.. However, I was not happy with the amount of money that I have spent for all these "Timepieces", since NONE of them had been right on the dot, or perfect accurate in any shape or form, with the exception of Ball watches as being much better than many of these VERY expensive watches out there including Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Frank Muller, Panarai, etc, as well as some of these having "Tourbillion" movements too.. I never understood why in the world anyone would buy any of these extremely expensive watches anyway, since these items are incredible way overpriced, or up to $500K+ depends on how complicate they are.. However, that is somehow normal from any mechanical watch since the performance rely on temperature of your body and the weather over all. I use to fix watches for over 15 years and I can tell that this Seiko watch it is by far under-priced for a mechanical watch. The only down size of this particular Seiko mechanism is that it will not wind by hand if you will use the crown, vs all other ETA mechanism that I upper mentioned.. So you will have to either wear it every day, or keep it in the winder. It is perfectly fine with me this "inconvenience", since I do have a winder.. I strongly recommend to anyone out there to buy one winder if you don't have one, and you like to switch your watches by time to time.. All I can tell you is that, DON'T make the same "mistake " like I did myself and buy ANY of these high-in brand names.. It is not worth it, since this Seiko watch it is spot on compared with any of these upper mentioned, unless your life truly "needs" any Rolex type of product, and you need to make anyone aware of that life style kind of level.. I actually went and sold many of my high-in watch collection since I had some amount of money invested that it did not fit my lifestyle anymore.. Believe me, you would not be satisfied after you will see your brand new Rolex, or either Breitling be anywhere near accurate while you already spent over $6700+.. And, don't believe any of the "BS" that these sales people will throw you such as your Rolex "will" go up in value, unless you have a rare piece and maybe a limited edition and/or very old version.. Seiko watches, does the same thing, and matter of fact it is almost similar as far as bezel type with the DayJust Rolex version 36mm vs Seiko 37 mm.. Don't worry about Sapphire Crystal, since you can't make any difference anyway.. I truly believe that this Seiko watches deserve more credit, so take advantage of this lower price for the pretty much "same" mechanical automatic watch, having also an elegant appearance and beautiful set up too.. I recently bought another one in brown dial color.. I also would like to tell anyone interested into a brown color, is that unless you like the brown dial, then do not get it since it is a little hard to read the time.. White color or black it is fine.. On the other hand, if you truly want accuracy, then buy a Casio watch for $19.99, or a Casio Atomic watch for around $85+... Well, enjoy it I guess..

Great value, Greater appearance.
I received my watch yesterday and it is great. Recently, I had been spending an inordinate amount of time researching automatic watches to figure out which one to make my first. During my searchings, I came upon the Seiko 5 series and decided to take a dive into the multitude of variations of this vaunted line with the purpose choosing one of these to be my very own. I had initially leaned toward the SNK809, but wasn't thrilled about the styling. I wanted something that was a little nicer looking, but not a dress watch and definitely not gaudy. When I found this case design with the Arabic numerals at 12 and 6, and a black dial face, I knew this was the one I wanted. I then found one here on Amazon and ordered it. The only thing about the watch that didn't thrill me was the bracelet band. It seemed too flashy to me and they drew attention away from the dial. I ended up ordering the Benchmark 18mm Black Silicone watchband to be the happy medium between the utilitarian canvas style and the dressier leather. Upon receiving the watch, I promptly swapped out the band. The watch is now what I wanted, a nice enough watch for a business setting, but not too nice for everyday wear. As to the accuracy of the movement, I hadn't even set a benchmark until this morning, so I'm not entirely sure. As I wear the watch daily, and get more of a feel for it, I'll update my review. Today is 12/3/18 and have had a few days to get more of a feel for it and to check the accuracy. As to the accuracy, or "function", of the watch, after 5 days, it has gained 25 seconds cumulatively, so it gains 5s per day. As to the look, or"fit", of the watch, I love it. It feels great, it looks great and I just don't want to take it off.

Disappointed
I was really disappointed in that Seiko watch. I now own two watches that I'm disappointed in. In addition I returned one. I like the accuracy of the Seiko. I like the looks of the one that I have now, except for the thickness, and a little heavier than my old one which I have owned for at least 5 years. My real disappointment is in the material that they use so that you can read and dim light, aren't darkness. The two watches I have, one is this new one , and one that I purchased about a year ago, but never wore. I got it out, when this one was not readable in darkness. The one I'd had, although it was supposed to be "florescent", did not read in darkness either. Reading up on materials that Seiko uses to make sure watches readable in darkness, both these watches were probably in stock for some time before I purchased them. I'd recently read on Google, that the material Seiko uses has a half-life of approximately 2 1/2 years. So I think that's exclamation the fact that these do not work in the dark for me. Many years ago I purchased a watch and I think it was a Lumina. Anyhow the hands were tritium gas and I had the watch were long time, and one of my friends but one like it. But they read it tonight as good as any other watch would read during the daytime. I noticed that Lumina still uses tritium for their "fluorescence". I have on this Seiko pass my 30 day return time, are I would return it and look for a Lumina that I can see in the dark. Otherwise, the Seiko is nice-looking watch, it keeps good time, but is useless in the dark. MHP. Skipjack 68

Great everyday or even dress watch.
Great everyday or even dress watch. I've had mine for a couple weeks and it performs very well for $98 price tag. Haven't recorded its accuracy; however, it holds a consistent time. Great size at 37mm and lug width of 18mm. Really liked this watch when I came across it on amazon and it's even better in person.

dont be scared, it runs like a top.
Do not be overly concerned by people complaining about these Seiko 5's keeping time poorly. I've had mine 6 weeks now and I don't think it's lost more than three to four seconds yet, if that much. This is my third Seiko and the first two lasted a total of 24 years. Actually number two is still running fine, but the gold plating got too worn. They make some fine watches. One note I would give you on my particular model though in regards to the day abbreviation. I thought it would be in red print, because that's what's illustrated. That's not the case, and I should have remembered that. SUN is in red print, all the other days are black-and-white. My previous Seikos were the same way. No a big point, just something to keep in mind when you pick which Seiko 5 you like.

Almost 5 years old - still looking and running good!
This is the first automatic watch I've owned, and it has become a treasured possession. It is living up to the good reputation that Seiko has earned through the decades. I do wear it with care, but it certainly has not been pampered. It has gotten wet, but I avoid submerging it. When new, it did run slightly fast; gaining five to ten minutes a week. Eventually, it did speed up some more. I believe I may have disturbed it while splitting firewood. I bought a tool to remove the caseback, and was able to use the movement's adjustment lever to restore the accuracy it had before. I find the bracelet to be comfortable, and not particularly difficult to resize. I intend to keep and enjoy this watch for as many more years as I may be blessed with; perhaps passing it along to another enthusiast when my time is up. I realize that the cost of a watchmaker servicing it will easily equal or exceed its' replacement cost. I don't find that unreasonable in order to cherish the journey with a worthy mechanical companion. It's quite reasonable when you consider what you could spend to maintain vehicles that you roll, float, or fly with.

The numbers twelve and six are hard to be seen.
The quality itโs fantastic as a Seiko watch, however the number twelve and six really gets unnoticeable because of the dial background color.

For $100, it's a great everyday watch!
The watch looks very good. Not overly large in size, or visual perception, it's nicely understated. I must have received a particularly good one because in the 5 days that I have owned it, it has gained 20 seconds. (+7, +4, +4, +2, +3) Only my Rolex Explorer will better that kind of time keeping. The only detractor, so far, is the band. It is a cheap one, folded links and a stamped clasp. Put a nice band on it and you can't beat this watch for a "daily wear" beater.
