An excellent device that serves its purpose well.
The Panasonic DY-WL5 wireless LAN adapter is designed for several different Panasonic Blu-ray players. This includes the DMP-BD77, which I own. It has turned out to be an excellent device in every respect. Set-up was as easy as plugging it into the "Wireless LAN" USB port on the back of my BD player. The adapter instantly came to life, thereby providing my player with full wi-fi capability.I agree with other reviewers that Panasonic is a bit... shall we say... disingenuous in its terminology when it claims that the DMP-BD77 and other players like it are "Wi-fi Ready." Most people (like me) assume that this means the player has wi-fi built in, and will connect to a network right out of the box. This is simply not the case. These players have some wi-fi circuitry built into them, but require a separate - and expensive - wireless LAN adapter in order to function fully. This is not the fault of the DY-WL5 adapter, so I'm not going to penalize it by lowering my rating of it. It is an excellent device that serves its (rather unnecessary) purpose quite well. Recommended.

Shame on Panasonic
This adapter works perfect. But the surround sound box makes it seem that it is easy streaming. Didn't say you need another product for it work. Very disappointed in Panasonic.

Works perfectly!
This adapter works perfectly. Completely painless setup. I didn't set this up with the initial setup of this Blue ray disc player, but once I attached this adapter, the player instructions followed and walked me straight through without issue. I've been enjoying Netflix without any problems. Only once I couldn't get a connection, I don't believe it had anything to do with the adapter. I still have to check out the other streaming channels that it offers, though. I was disappointed that I hadn't discerned from reading on the disc player box that this isn't included but separate and I was very disappointed that like some of the other reviewers noted, in addition to that, you can't find the adapter anywhere! It's not even found on Panasonic's site!! So, thank goodness there were a few to be found on Amazon or this purchase (I bought it November 2012), would've been a practical let down without having the adapter to enjoy the streaming aspect of the player which was a deciding factor in my purchasing it. I couldn't even locate a LAN cable anywhere to fit this specific player. If you have this Panasonic Blue ray disc player, I advise purchasing the wireless adapter right away, because my guess is that once they're gone from Amazon, they'll be gone forever!!!

Works well
I bought the Blu-Ray Player this connects to under the pretenses it had built in wi-fi capability that ended up not being the case. Lets just say the retailer was apologetic and made it worth my time to keep this unit. So to make it connect to my wi-fi I had to buy this device, it is about the size of a thumb drive and plugs right into the face of the Blu-Ray player... simple as that it connected automatically and I was watching Netflix in no time. This adapter is worth the money if you already had a unit that needed it, but combined if you bought a unit and then bought this you have just spent a lot more money than one that already had everything built in.

A review of the reviews
I read almost all of the reviews posted here (started with the worst and worked my way through to the best) before I ordered the LAN adapter, and I am confused. Most of the bad reviews complain about fact that you have to purchase the adapter separately in order to use the Blu-ray player wirelessly. If you were to do some actual research on the function of the player prior to purchasing it instead of simply reading the splash of advertising on the outside box, you would be well aware of the need for the adapter. Admonishing Panasonic for not making your consumer experience “idiot-proof” is…..well…..idiotic.The balance of the bad reviews all claim that the adapter must be within a few feet of the router in order to function properly. I read stuff like; “had to reload NetFlix a lot” and “never able to get a wireless signal.”. My player is 54 feet from my router as the “crow flies”. (I measured it). The signal has to travel through two walls, the side of an entertainment center, and even through the player itself. (the adapter plugs into the back of the player, and the front of the player is facing the router). Yet, even with two PS3’s, and two laptops all online at the same time, I can (and do) constantly watch NetFlix with no signal interruption. The truth be told, I do loose the HD aspect of some of the shows from time to time, but that happens far and few between, and only for a second or two. I also use the player to surf the net (YouTube, Facebook, Amazon, etc.) with no problem. If in using this adapter you are experiencing slow or low signal strength, you might want to contact your internet service provider and have your modem checked out. Odds are it is not the player or the adapter, but the signal from the modem. My only complaint would be with the user interface which Panasonic has developed for the Blu-ray player. It is kind of “clunky” and “unfriendly”. They should have put a little more effort into programming it. BUT, this is a review for the adapter not the player so………….5 stars.

Speed horrible
The setup was nice and easy, but extremely dissapointed with how often it will stop internet service, and the speed when it would connect left a lot to be desired. I would seriously think twice before investing in this product, and try to find another route to connect to your router. I bid you all faire shopping.
