OMG! A Work Of Horror Magnificence! Pure Genius! A Must See!!!
I really loved this film for many reasons. The first one is, it's one of go to Dominic Monaghan films when I'm in a crappy mood. This movie is a work of genius because...This is in no particular order:1. Ron Perlman. That dude is sooooo freakin tall. I loved him the first Beauty and the Beast T.V. series so I was excited. I am huge fan of him. He is malicious ****er in this film, but that is why we love our Ronnie!!!2. Dominic Monaghan. Yes, I admit it. The first thing that motivated me to buy this movie was the obvious hobbit eye candy. But, Dom's acting mastery has impressed me so much in the past anyhow that I had to see him in a horror flick. Honestly, he should do more horror genres. I know he's not crazy about horror, but it's an excellent mesh for him. You'll see what I mean when you see him in the role of Arthur Blake. Monaghan does some amazing, twisting facial expressions in many scenes. Very entertaining to watch!3. Essence of Comedy. Holy Moly. I love how they make fun of the undead. It's like The Walking Dead meets The Munsters or Addams Family. Fantastic! There is great seen where Arthur's (Monaghan) buddy gets molested by a zombie. It's freakin awesome and down right hilarious!4. Makeup, please! The makeup has that very heavy effect in this film for what I believe is an asset and for a good reason. They are heavy with the makeup to bring back the same look as the old Dracula movies (In Loving Memory Of Sir Christopher Lee) so it works very well for this film as well causing one to reminisce.5. New acting talents. The other actors aside from Monaghan and Perlman were to me anyhow, maybe not be the same for some of you. We'll start off with Dr. Vernon Quint played by Angus Scrimm. Srimm's character is a deviant little...man, ahem...he projects an obvious essence fiendness and twisted, weird old man syndrome to the max! Now, onto Willie Grimes. OH MY GAWD! BRILLIANT!!! I was fascinated by Larry Fessenden's character as kind of a dopey sidekick to Monaghan's more light-hearted character. It was a great combo! Excellent casting for this team. Fessenden's character was very well brought. It is obvious that Willie loves Arthur like he was his own son, but Willie makes it obvious to Arthur on many occasions that he's not his dad and doesn't want to be. He'd rather be looked up to as Arthur's older and wiser pal. Arthur even considers leaving "working" along side Willie to join a gang of crazies because let's face it as knowledgeable as Willie is, he's an idiot when it comes to running him and Arthur's "business".6. The only disappointment in this film. Bad love interest choice. Even though, it's Monaghan's love interest. That's not why I am saying this. Still, Emilie DeRavin was worse. Oooh, I know what my next review is gonna be now! Brenda Cooney as Fanny Briers. I understand her role. That she is supposed to play a "mentally challenged" blonde woman, but her acting alone made her appear fake and overdone. They should have gave her better dialogue and made her character tougher. She is going up against men for pity sake. Give the girl some balls. She still some damsel in distress qualities to her which is a part of old films that didn't need to be kept prevelant. Let's move into the 21st Century, shall we??? Not meaning to say that Brenda Cooney is a bad actress at all. She would've worked better with Monaghan if she projected herself more sexually to him right from the start. She didn't even seem interested him and she's supposed to be his girlfriend. It is good that she appeared interested in Arthur and Willie's "business", but anyone woman knows that you need to show a genuine interest or at least make it appear like you are interest to Monaghan's character knowing that she can manipulate him easier if she was to come onto him more often. Being in Arthur Blake's shoes, realistically, I would've turned Fanny down instantly because a real man can see through horse caca like that well enough not to fall for that. That made Monaghan's character appear stupid and easily manipulated which should have surfaced sooner than what it did. Fanny should've been nice and kind to Arthur also confusing Willie as well so he would just think of Arthur and Fanny being your average happy go lucky lovers. Then the instant Fanny shows interest in their "business" the audience would flip out and know that she's a bad apple. But that would leave both Arthur and Willie oblivious to Fanny's true intentions. They could've also done a scheming little twist by making Fanny part of Willie and Arthur's rival team causing Fanny to be hated be she is obviously using both Arthur and Willie to get more dirt on them because she was working for the enemy the whole time. Just an idea. Fanny's character would've brilliant then.All-in-all though this film deserved the five star rating based on its creative stroke of genius alone.

Enjoyable mix of the undead and laughs
I Sell The Dead is a fun monster movie about two grave robbers Dominic Monaghan and Larry Fessenden and the undead they run into. You get the hard work of digging up corpses to sell along with funny moments like when even a zombie is scared by a woman’s face or when a beheaded man saves Monaghan. It’s got the perfect mix of both elements. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Set expectations to a properly humble level and you MIGHT enjoy it
One needs to have the proper expectations to enjoy I SELL THE DEAD. This is not really a horror story. It's not scary, nor is it really meant to be. It's an homage to both the horror comics of prior generations, as well as a nod to great horrors movies of the past. It is a silly, light comedy...the laughs are modest, but the tone is jovial. The movie begins with the execution of one long-time grave robber, and the subsequent interrogation of his younger partner by a priest eager to hear the secrets these grave robbers might have to share. (The movie is set in some vague 17th - 19th century time, I would guess.) Thus, we are shown a series of little stories, as the grave robber first tells us how he joined the business, then how he mastered it, and at last, how he and his partner began to discover unusual things during their work (such as vampires, zombies and a few other surprises). Each of these little "short stories" is loosely tied together, and thus the movie feels a little bit like a linear story mixed with a horror anthology. The movie was filmed on a very low budget and the special effects really hearken to a much earlier era. Fog machines were put to HEAVY use here, primarily to cover the cheesy sets and CGI backgrounds. The film is made with gusto and the right amount of over-acting. There is nothing subtle here. In fact, much of the editing and camera work reminded me of early Sam Raimi, with charging cameras and similar lighting. Character development is minimal and motivations are always sketchy at best. No attempt is made to explain why there are vampires, for example...they just are.The star of the film is Dominic Monaghan ("Lost") as the younger grave robber. He works primarily alongside Larry Fessenden as his mentor. The two have a fairly easy chemistry, but a lot of their dialogue is repetitive and there are numerous scenes of the two of them at the local pub, discussing plans or upbraiding each other for wrongs. These scenes feel like padding in an already short (83 minutes) film. Ron Perlman ("Sons of Anarchy") is the inquisitive priest, and Angus Scrimm from PHANTASM makes a brief appearance. Otherwise, the cast is unremarkable and fairly amateurish. This movie has a light-hearted, easy-going quality that is quite amiable. Everyone is having a good time. There are a few splashes of real humor, such as in the depiction of the zombies. But the movie is simply TOO easy-going, TOO amateurish and TOO lazily written to be truly enjoyable. I don't feel I wasted my time, exactly...but I was never deeply involved and even occasionally was checking my watch to see how much was left. I have no problem with low-budget production values (which the filmmakers did a good job of maximizing), and I can even tolerate mediocre supporting acting...but there is no excuse for lazy writing. A bit more attention to the work done BEFORE the cameras were even turned on might have turned this from "barely passable on a slow night" to "good, clean, harmless fun."

Dead movie
Where do I begin? Ok, I wasn't thrilled with this one. I bought it from reviews I read, but I was disappointed with the whole thing. It gets slow too often and there's not much real "horror" to it. It's almost a spoof on the zombie/vampire idea of the dead. I felt it was too long drawn out with no real reason to be. The potential for a substantial movie was definitely there, but they dropped the ball on making it happen. If you are a horror fan, do not buy this. You will be disappointed. If you like a light horror and spoof kind of thing, this is made for you. I loved one scene, only because it was funny and just so off the wall you had to laugh. The ending was what I expected, so I wasn't even surprised there. It was ok.This is a spoiler so don't read further:My favorite scene: they were on the beach and a zombie was in the "cage" and when Valentine took her mask off..........

Confessions of a grave robber
Arthur Blake is getting ready to be executed. Before this happens he gets a visit from drunk priest Father Duffy. Arthur begins to tell his story from the beginning. Horror comedies have been... uneven, trying to hard to veer from one end to the other. This is more even, the dark humour being allowed to carry and remedy the only vaguely scary moments. As Arthur investigates how he came to be accused of murder and a trail of body parts led to his door there are ghosts, Hammer style scenery and tone and enough dark laughs to carry the movie. It's not a work of genius, but the actors give enough conviction to get you through it. It's slightly better than the Burke and Hare comedy from a few years ago with less unnecessary romantic sub plot. I'd recommend it if you need something a little different.

Fails to be horror or comedy and comes over as contrived and forced
There was one suspects a fun tale just waiting to burst out of I Sell the Dead but poor acting and a lazy script hamper this. The DVD blurb tells us that this is a comedy horror classic- but there's no comedy or at least the jokes hit the wall and there's literally no horror. The movie feels like it is trying to hard to be cool and hip, but all in all it's a hurried affair and poor at that. The one actor who brings this movie crashing to the ground is Dominic Monaghan- completely miscast or it could be that he simply can't act.I Sell the Dead is loosely based on the Burke and Hare story of grave robbing, and Monaghan is giving his last confessions as he is about to face the gullotine. The man listening is played by Ron Perlman, not quite sure how this production lured Perlman in but they did. He does a competent job with his fake Irish accent. So Monaghan tells his story however the script is so weak that during re telling his grave robbing adventures it seems like a scene can't go by without him having flashbacks within a flashback! The grave robbing story is quickly ditched for Aliens, Vampires and Zombies and the whole thing just comes across as contrived. Larry Fessenden who has an uncanny ability to star in very average horrors isn't too bad here, at least he seems to recongnise the part he is playing, and looks like a genuine Oliver Twist character. Angus Scrimm he of the Phantasm movies also stars, but don't get too excited he is here for no more than 5 minutes. The set up for this movie was spot on just plainly bad executed and the finale seems like a slap in the face. There's far worse out there, but much more was expected.

Good fun to watch, nothing too menacing
This film is really fun to watch. If you like the more humerous horror films such as Zombieland and Army of Darkness you ought to get something out of watching this. There's one particularly overly gory bit where a guy gets his throat cut, which doesn't quite fit in with the mood of the rest of the film, but overall it's a good film, well worth a watch if you don't want anything too heavy. It's like going through York Dungeons rather than staying overnight in the Amityville House.

I really like this film
I really like this film, I like comedy horror, like Shaun of the dead, my mum didn't like it as much she said "its alright." My daughter liked the film she is 15. That's why I gave it four out of five based on three peoples view on the film.It has a lot of different strange things in it, can't say what or it will ruin the film. Its defiantly different.

MEH!!!!!
I bought this firstly because of the bargin price, and second because of the great ron perlman, but to be honest i wasn't expecting too much from this, and i didn't get too much.Marketed as a comedy/horror it tries hard with some fresh ideas but fails both as a comedy and as a horror, the script and performances aren't funny, and there's not enough blood n guts for the gorehounds. An ok flick nothing more.
