Will this fightstick make me better than Daigo and Justin Wong?

haha. Its a really solid stick so yes If you practice alot you always could. Its not so much the stick as practice and dedication but a solid stick is a good start.

Anyone have opinions about the close proximity of the buttons to the joystick? The distance between them looks a bit closer than other fight sticks.

Saw a very helpful video on Youtube that mentioned this actually. https://youtu.be/fzIYidgQeFI?t=103 If the time link should break, skip to 1:43, essentially there are two set ups you will commonly see. I don't own this stick and I am a novice in these things, but this appears to be the one with the buttons closer to the stick.

What kind of gate does it have?

Comes with a square gate you can buy an octo and install it really easily though, you just have to pop open the back by unscrewing the back.
