Haunting, exciting romantic and heartbreaking. I got to the end of the gorgeous novel and literally started at the beginning again. I can't say that I have done that with many other books. The author's gift for description in captivating and his characters are people I long to know. The structure of the story is fast pace and never ever boring. The ending was painful but in beautiful symmetry to the theme and the moral of the overall story. I am going to recommend this to my 15 year old son, who is a freshman at a Jesuit school and a avid fan of Poe and Kafka! I think he will enjoy it for obvious connections. I will recommend it to my daughter for the romantic, beautiful heart wrenching story. This novel has so much to offer and I only wish I could read it for the first time again.

I know his part of this gothic tale and through his eyes; I was able to escape again to a long ago and far away world that I love.This book was sad and glorious. Beautiful and horrific. A wonderful story and an unbelievable fairy tale. A great book and one I was sad to put down.

Carlos Zafron has always told stories of mystery and horror. I have loved reading all of his novels. They remind me of gothic novels like “Rebecca.” If you like old fashioned gothic novels, try his books. If you have bee to Barcelona, you will love his descriptions of the city a century ago, familiar but now changed.

Novel dedicated to young public. An history of love.Is one of the first books of Zafon in the series. Not as popular as the latest ones

Anything written by this wonderful writer is recommended. Beautiful. But beware, once you start reading Zafron, you cannot stop, nor should you.

I enjoyed reading Marina because of the intricate plot and how Zafon drew me into his story as if I were a voyeuristic shadow in the allies of Barcelona. I was intrigued by the Mary Shelley reference. The twist of bringing death back to life had a more macabre gothic feel than Shelley's tale. I believe this book will appeal to young audiences who themselves feel lost, trying to fit in, the lost of a friend or how times those who are different can be misunderstood. I will recommend this book to my ELL students, especially my Spanish speaking students because I want to expose them to the works of Zafon.

Did not realize book was YA. Fairly decent adult read.

I love CRZ's writing style. It's hypnotizing. With most authors, I have a tendency to zone out of the story from time to time but not with CRZ books. I could read his stories all day, every day.Marina is a fast paced book with plenty of action/suspense to keep you interested. The characters are relatable, weaving their ways into your heart.I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a riveting, fast paced, quick read.

Todos los libros de Zafon son una maravilla, Es por mucho uno de los mejores autores que pudieron existir en los ultimos 25 años. Si no te has dado la oportunidad de leer nada de El te recomendaria empezar por este libro que es uno de sus primeros libros publicados. de lectura ligera avida. y que seguramente te atrapara en ese mundo que solo el puede crear

Good story, enjoyed reading it. His 'Shadow Of The Wind' trilogy is far better though.
