Walnut Hollow Basswood Carving Block

The wood blocks came in excellent shape and were good to go as far as not having any rotten spots, knots, chips, holes, splinters, or other issues wood can have. They were uniform and perfect for my project, just what I needed.

Good quality password, clear of knots, easy to carve, arrived in plastic shrink wrap. Please note that to achieve 4" thickness, the manufacturer laminated two pieces of 2" thick wood together. This was OK for my application since I intend to paint carvings with opaque paints, which will mostly hide the glue seam (and discontiguous grain pattern) of the lamination.

It's pretty small but you can carve a variety of things using this wood. I was using this wood in order to practice wood carving. It was difficult at first but I ordered 5 pieces of this wood and non of them came with any major discrepancies. All the same size as well.

Needed a soft wood block for a project that required the wood to flex a bit when soaked in water. Basswood was recommended for the project.. Basswood is a very soft light wood ideal for carving and is flexible when the grain is wet; however I got better results for my DIY project (involved some use of a drill press), using Ponderosa pine. Pine can be purchased at a hardware store much cheaper than Basswood at craft stores

Bought this wood to use for Cub Scout projects. We had never carved with wood, so perhaps I'm not expert enough to provide a good review. But this stuff was so impossible to use in carving that the kids were miserable. It was a miracle that they all ended the evening without any cuts. It's beautiful but we could hardly get any wood shavings off of it, let alone make stop cuts or come close to achieving the desired shapes.

This block of wood was used to help me recreate the “Gellar Cup” from the tv show Friends which was then used as as a prop for a friends themed 40th birthday party. Worked perfectly. And I think the prop turned out pretty good - not to toot my own horn (left is prop from show. Right is my recreated version)

J'ai réalisé une statuette que j'ai peinte a l'acrylique. Le bois était facile à sculpter avec de bons Ciseaux, et à peindre. Le résultat est top.

Really good!! I created a wooden horse replica from the Blade Runner new movie, and I am very happy with this wood. It was smaller that I expected, as I didn't measure it, but that was my mistake, and anyway I am really happy with the result and the wood!! Very recommendable!!
