If you've got even a little junk in the trunk, get a size larger
So I got these in a 34, normally I wear a relaxed fit 36, thinking they'd be big if I got them in same size. I read the reviews that said it ran small but also considered how they're meant to be worn higher. However, I have a plusher backside than most guys, and thighs to go along, I failed to account for that. With clenching, I still couldn't get them over my butt and there was 0 space for my thighs. Besides that, they felt of good quality and material and I will be reordering them in a larger size in addition to updating the review to matchUPDATE: JUL 31, 2021 Got the new pair awhile ago and they fit perfect. Make sure to get brief style underwear or equivalent if you plan to wear any at all. Haven't gotten them wet so I can't attest to how well they perform at their original job. Fit great, feel great, and the prive is good.

The quality is very good and is damn near the same as back 25 ...
I has these as a standard issue in the Corps. The quality is very good and is damn near the same as back 25 years ago. The size is the moving target. They are designed to sit high on the waist so keep that in mind. If you have really skinny legs and no butt then you most likely will not like these shorts. I am 6'3", 240lbs and am very active in fitness. I ordered a 38 based on reviews. The waist is big but the loop belt takes care of the extra room. The leg openings are just the right fit because I tend to carry more size in my upper thighs and hips. The butt fits really nice but does have some sag in the middle to lower. Not sure why but there is a sag. Bottom line - very good product but just have the expectations and know what kind of shorts these are supposed to be before you leave a negative review.,

Important notes on the fit/cut.
Feel good, fit well, hope they work out.Important notes on the fit. These are cut very differently from modern shorts. However, there are 2 main factors to keep in mind with these:1.) The waist. This design of shorts has been in use for decades and was originally conceived back in an era where men's pants/shorts were meant to be worn truly at one's waistline. So, for people that say the waist on these is way too small, they're expecting these to fit relaxed and hang down on their hips like modern shorts. I wear 32W/Medium in all my pants, but I prefer my casual pants to hang at the hip, not up by my naval. These shorts sit up by your naval, but I was expecting them to do that so I like it. They are cut purposefully to taper ever so slightly from the hips up to the waist, not to mention the crotch is extra low, because they expect these shorts to be worn higher up on your actual waistline. So, if you order a size up, like so many people suggest, you will likely have shorts that hang down closer to what you might be used to for the waist, but the rest of the shorts are going to feel saggy and loose because they're meant to be up higher.2.) The leg openings. A lot of people complain about how big the leg holes are. These are meant to be worn by military swimmers. Fit, athletic men that spend all day swimming. Anyone that's ever trained for swimming, or even just seen a professional swimmer will know that those guys have huge legs. If you're some scrawny, military wannabe or some roided-out meat-head that doesn't believe in "leg day," these are gonna be loose and saggy around your thighs. Get in the water, swim some laps, build your quads up and I guarantee these will fit you much better. Not to mention, these are workout, training shorts. You need to be able to do all sorts of movements in them. You don't want them to be all snug and chaffing around your upper thighs.Just trying them on, I really like how they fit. Very classic design and look. They feel great and I can't wait to actually take them into the water. My only concern is that the material could be better. The D-rings aren't the sturdiest and the buttons on the fly feel like I'll probably be sewing them back on before long.Overall though I highly recommend them and I say you're safe to order them in whatever pant size you generally wear. However, if you want to be extra sure, get a measuring tape and measure yourself at your actual waistline, not down where you normally wear your other shorts.

Good quality, don't fit very muscular legs and lean body
The shorts quality is fine, comfort is good, I had to return 2 pairs simply because these aren't seemingly meant for a powerlifters lower body. First pair was 34 and I could barely fit them over my quads, second was a 36 and my waist was swimming, my glutes were packed in and my quads nearly popped the seams, yet the leg opening had room? It was confusing... If i didn't have extremely muscular legs and a lean waist these would probably fit better
