Less Gloomy than the Original, More Fun for the Family.
If you enjoy the original Gloom, they you will love this. It adds some new rules elements, such as persistent effect cards and story cards, while keeping the same humor of the original. Another element I like about this game is that we are able to play with my wife's sister who is 11, whereas playing the original Gloom with her may be a bit too dark, but she loved this version of the game and really got into telling her own story. I wouldn't go younger than 10, but this game is fun for kids due to their very overactive imaginations.

Gloom with a new mechanic
The new mechanic introduced in this game is a welcome addition to the Gloom game.Basically it plays the same way classic Gloom plays with two "Stories" placed in the middle of the gaming area that can be nabbed by any player who completes the objective of these stories for extra points. As always I love the artwork and the cheeky little flavor text.

Compatability Review
This review is more for those that want to know about compatibility/differences between this version and the original:I currently keep my collection as two different games.I have the original base game with all it's expansions with the exception of Unquiet Dead as one game. I play this version more for the gameplay (lots of rules).I have Cthulhu, Fairytale and my Christmas story Promo card as a second game. I play this version more to make up stories (a lot less rules).I mix and match character cards and unwanted guests between both my game decks. This version has character cards but no assigned families so you can mix and match the different character cards to build your own family. If you want to make this transition smoother for other versions you own, you can just make it opptional to keep the original family together and decide to mix and match all the character cards to create your own family.Game play wise, all the versions and expansions I have are all compatible with each other. Visually there are some differences. I acually prefer the look of the plastic in the Fairytale version to all of the others. Since the others have a somewhat frosted look, it is harder to see through them than the fairy tail version which is just clear. The only draw back to the Fairy tail having clearer cards is I can tell what version I'm drawing from the deck due to them being shinier. I don't think that matters very much since I still don't know which specific card is being drawn so it doesn't bother me. That's not as obvious as Cthulhu Gloom where the back of the cards are completely different than the original (that bothers me but I made it work anyway). The backs of Fairytale match the original game. I don't have problems reading any of the versions but for those that had a hard time with how the original was printed, Fairytale has a much cleaner and brighter print to it so it should be easy to read.If you have the Christmas promo card and no other story cards to go with it (mine came with my original version), Fairytale is a nice addition to your preexisting collection because it adds several more story cards so you can mix and match to keep things more interesting. Fairytail's story cards are purple where the christmas one and the Cthulhu ones are green. The Christmas one is the only card I have that is made of white paper (which doesn't matter since story cards don't get stacked). All other story cards are plastic and transparent like the rest of the game.

Great
Our friends really enjoyed this. The name and concept seem depressing but it is actually just a cute and creative story telling game that gets pretty hilarious whether you are with new friends or people you've known a while.Bonus: it's compact so it travels well. I like the uniqueness of the cards as well.

based mechanics are fun and we enjoyed the fairytale connotation
A fun game it's really it's best when you work in an interactive type of storytelling element. Every turn you use cards from your hand to make one of the four characters each player has a little more gloomy or happy. The funny Nuance is that you want your characters to have the gloomiest stories of all, before their stories end. The fairytale characters you get to use really help because you can use the fairytale references as a jumping off point for the narrative, and that is an important for this game.I'm going to say there's about five layers of strategy or complexity that buildup on the base mechanic and we often prefer to simply leave some out. For example each card has a description on the bottom that has an effect when you play in addition to the primary effect that the picture on the card has. I recommend sticking to those two levels of details for your first few Playthru's and I'm not really sure how much additional layers of complexity add. The good deuces they're pretty easy to ignore just means that you end up having to sort deck.Last but not least the packaging is terrible I think you're basically going to throw this out as soon as you realize you need to sort the cards and there's just no good way to do it with this little box, really should've come with a better container.

So much fun!
This game is so addicting, we bought this as an expansion to the originals Gloom which can be added easily and it is so funny to play. The cards are a solid plastic, good quality and the imagery and art or quirky, unique and silly. This is a go-to game for my friends and I! Highly recommend!

A great game!
Great game! I really enjoyed the regular version of Gloom when I played it with some friends. I decided to try out the Fairytale version and was no disappointed. There are a couple small additions, such as story cards, and you pick your 'family' every time you play. I strongly recommend this game.

En anglais
Le jeu n'a jamais été traduit en français et c'est bien dommage sinon j'aurais mis 5 étoiles. Moment de rires garantis

If you like telling stories and playing card games, get this or any other game of Gloom. Playing with different people and watching how they bring the cards to life makes you happy that they just took some points from you.

Gloom in Fairy Tale form!
A morbid twist on familiar fairy tales of old. If you love fairy tales & Gloom, this game hits the spot! The illustrations are amazing, and the prompts lead to nothing but hilarity.
