Pressed or cast pot metal - brittle and broke after one drop.

*Edit - Description claims "solid stainless steel", which it absolutely is not.Poor quality cast or pressed pot metal. Took mine out of the package and accidentally knocked it off my tool box while fetching the blades - broke at the junction between blade holder and handle. Could see grainy texture and mold seam! Too bad I lost my cheap India produced handle: it was actually made out of tool steel which bent instead of shattering. How likely is a "hobby" tool going to see rough use? Surgeons may be able to throw these away on the regular but at almost $9 each plus shipping this kind of quality is inexcusable. Guess I should have picked up the real "hobby" set for $10 at my local brick and mortar shop and got 5 blades along with a robust handle. Will return.

Not Worth the Price, Perhaps Dangerous

I thought I might be "moving up" from my Pakistani, hobby-quality scalpel and blades, but I wasn't. The handle does have more heft and balance than my cheapie -- but the matching Swann Morton #11 blades (NO apparent sharpness / quality improvement!) are nearly impossible to remove or install -- especially with the included plastic blade-changing tool (absolutely worthless / dangerous). So, if you want a quality scalpel / blade combination, look elsewhere. I am.

Excellent quality; precision fit with blades

Very high quality, sturdy, precision, good solid fit with blades. Good solid weight, the measurement markings are convenient for crafting. Off brands may be hit and miss when it comes to quality, thanks to reviews am glad I chose this brand name instrument.

very sturdy heavy stainless handle

very sturdy heavy stainless handle, easy to load and unload IF you do it properly. Utube has instructions. Blades are held firmly. and don't move around at all. I'm very pleased. I have large hands and the smooth finish plus the rather petite size made it a bit difficult to grasp firmly-not the handles fault- so I streched a piece of silicone tubing over the handle ( not the blade attachment part ) and that makes it perfect and very secure while using scapel blades.

Better then using an Exact-O Knife and made by the Brits.

It's from England. Well made as to be expected. Very solid one piece construction means this scalpel will last decades.Boxes of 100 blades can be as little as $7 to as much as $20. I find the lower grade blades ($7-$10) are OK for the one and done use. But if you are looking to use this type of handle spent a little more on the blades. Not really sure why but just steeping over the $10 for 100 count box makes all the difference in how well and long the blades last and how they fit into the handle.

Very nice handle.

Very nice handle, much thicker (thus stronger) than other handles i've bought before; I doubt this will ever bend, which is impressive considering what I sometimes put my scalpels through. Blades fit snugly.iFour stars due to the price, not the quality of the handle. t's a very nice handle, but a little more pricy than its worth, at least to me. For some people the extra cash may be more than worth it.

Love for dermablading

I used the donated 4130 medicit sterilized blades along with this scalpel handler and it works perfectly for me!

Must use their brand of blades to fit.

I use this tool for model making. It fits its brand of blades only, so buy them only.My beef is with the ability to securely hold onto the handle with ungloved hands.A surgeon will have rubber/latex gloves which among other things will improve the gripping ability of the "slippery" handle that is designed to be sterilized numerous times. So I would recommend using an Xacto #11 hobby knife mainly. If you really want to try this scapple, perhaps do as I did and wrap the handle in duct tape.
