Apple Peeler, Cast Iron, Red1, Stainless Steel Blades

I've had 2 or 3 apple peelers in the past which just about manage to peel small to medium supermarket grade apples but didn't handle anything larger. Their performance was disappointing. The machines weighed about 500g. I bought my Johnny apple peeler about a month ago. It looked the same as the others but the big difference was that it weighed in at 925g. That has made a huge difference. It is extremely well constructed and has easily dealt with apples of all shapes and sizes. It does cost a little more than other machines but it is well worth paying the extra. I thoroughly recommend it.

Fabulous product, we get a lot of apples every year and this made short work of them. It would be nice to have a slicing tool that was wider so you can get some larger slices, but I am nitpicking here.

Worked straight out of the box (with just the wooden handle and spike to screw on) and within a few seconds it had peeled and cored the first apple. It does exactly what it says, and does it well. One small feedback point is the location and position of the suction handle. In the operating position the handle is in the way of where a plate needs to be to collect the juice (that will drip off the apple) and peel is collected. If the handle was reversed, or on the opposite side of the base, it would be far better.

One tough well engineered simple machine. Easy to set up (just read and follow the instructions). Stick on an apple and turn the handle. Instantly peeled, sliced and cored. One is tempted to go for speed just for the fun of the action. Makes apple prepping a pleasure rather than a chore.

The peeler needs a smooth surface to sit on and you need to get used to having the apple correctly centred - it but after that it is a Brilliant peeler

Wonderful machine and great fun. Expect it would make any child desperate to eat an apple!

This is my new favourite kitchen gadget! It has made peeling and coring apples for apple dishes so much easier and faster. The peeler is also great to use without the "corer" for any dishes that require larger quantities of potatoes such as homemade fries, mashed potatoes or potato salad. The corer is simply rotated out of the way to the side so as not to be used for potatoes. The suction is very strong when used on my laminate countertop-it's not going anywhere once it's set up in a spot by engaging the lever. There may be a small bit of peel left on the top or bottom to the apple or potato, and perhaps a tiny bit of apple core left, which I cut out, but overall I have found it is still a huge time-saver. I like that the wooden handle is well-finished and well protected with varnish. It feels like a very well-made and sturdy tool when in use. On the negative side, before each use the corer should be carefully checked for alignment with the part that pushes the apple through, to ensure that the metal parts will not contact and possibly wear down each other. It can take a couple of attempts before they are properly set up, because there is a small area of clearance between the 2 parts, but this does not take too much time. Also people should know that I don't believe this item would be suited to dishwasher cleaning due to the wooden handle, but it is very easy to clean by rinsing under running water after use. For long-term storage I wipe a very thin coat of petroleum jelly on any unpainted metal parts to protect against any possible rust formation. I do this because I appreciate having this tool so much!

Firstly, I've used only once... so far... to peel about 20lbs of apples. What a time-saver! And finger and knuckle saver! (Regular peelers take their toll... don't they?) And I don't usually offer reviews unless the item impresses on a number of levels. Secondly, bought this for my 84 year old mum to make her canning go a bit more smoothly and easily. Two simple parts are added onto the peeler out of the box (handle and the prongs that hold they apples.) Easy to do... have a screwdriver handy. The item seems of good quality and was easy to clean. Suction worked well on the kitchen counter. As far as operation, take it slow/steady. It works wonderfully! Cores the apples and slices them up in a circular cut as they spiral from the peeler blade. It's best to remember the price of this unit... it does a big job - but it won't stand up long (I believe), to "fast, let's get this done NOW" action. Go easy on it as you crank the apples after centering them onto the prongs. I was helping my mum make apple sauce. She mentioned that it looked like fun since it appeared to be "so easy." And it is fun... and very easy. Especially if you've ever had to do this WITHOUT one of these gadgets! (Saved us hours of effort!) Now... I have not used this as a potato peeler... and I have no intention to. I believe it works best for apples. Apples are more uniform than a potato and the apples can more easily be pushed onto the prongs for peeling.... IMO. Mum loves it... of course, I'm doing the peeling. But I don't really mind. It is easy and you find yourself done with the job in a short time. Now... mum wants another 20lbs of apples peeled!

I love this apple peeler. I had reservations about how well it would work. I have only used it to peel and core apples so far and it performs this task effortlessly. Unlike some other unfortunate reviewers , I found that the suction on this peeler was strong and attached to my bench firmly while peeling. Very easy to clean. Love it!
