For reference, I swim outside year-round and while my natural skin tone is fair (& very freckled) I do have a light base tan. Of course, I wear sunscreen, so like to have a darker tan than I can get naturally. I've tried a ridiculous number of self-tanning lotions, drops, and foams for my body and face. Most of them are mostly okay, but need to be applied daily or almost daily or they splotch and fade away. I decided I'd give a different self-tanner one more try with Beauty by Earth. I am astounded at the effectiveness of the product! It's very moisturizing and tans my skin beautifully...works with one application that lasts for 2 to 3 days, even when I swim. The color is outstanding; a true tan, neither orange nor yellow. Actually, when I used the lotion 2 days in a row it was a little bit too much because my ankles turned just a tiny bit yellowish. So once or twice a week max is sufficient to achieve nice color. I was so please with the "tan" on my body that I decided to try the lotion on my face. Okay, so I have extremely sensitive skin on my face and use a moisturizer that is supposed to be helpful for rosacea/break-outs/hyper-sensitivity. Let me tell you, I was nervous about using Beauty by Earth Lotion on my face, but I felt adventurous. So I tried it and WOW I am delighted! The lotion had absolutely no irritating effect on my complexion and it turned a terrific, natural-looking tan. My "special" facial moisturizer is getting ditched, folks. And I love being able to use the same product on my face that I use on my body. So that's my review of Beauty by Earth Self Tanner. I am very pleased and recommend it!

This tanner had the best reviews on Amazon, which is why I decided to try it. I decided I loved it SO much that I HAD to leave a review for other gingers out there looking for any self tanner that's been reviewed by another ginger (I spent hours doing that). I'm naturally strawberry blonde (for people looking for a ginger's opinion, I'm not shockingly red, but more golden blonde) and I have seriously seriously pale skin/blue eyes. So it's easy to go too dark with any self tanner I use. I have to say, this stuff is seriously awesome. If you're going to use it, here's my tips based on how the stuff preformed: It's gradual, so use it a day or two ahead of whatever event you want to be tan for. The paler you are, the more days I would give yourself. I feel like it takes a good 24 hours to really set in and give you a glow. And if it's too shockingly tan, a couple of days after it will have faded a tiny bit to a more comfortable color for you. And it fades really well so it won't look splotchy. Exfoliate your skin beforehand because that's what you *should* do. However, I didn't the second time I used it and I haven't had any issues with it being spotty on my legs or anything. Be careful you have time to walk around in a robe for a the first few hours and try not to do anything that would cause it to get streaky in places like behind your knees or whatever, but that's true with any self tanner. Not giving the product time to absorb into the skin is your own fault, not the tanner's fault. Overall, I hadn't had ANY issues with streaking. If there's a patch I missed, it was my own fault. But because it's gradual tanner, just wait a day and put some on where you missed it. It won't be super obvious to anyone but yourself on the first application if you've missed a spot. Like I said, it's really fantastic, It tans you based on your own skin color. And that's coming from a freaky pale ginger. As far as color goes, it gives you a really pretty glow that I can't explain. I wouldn't describe it as orange or brown, but rather just a shade *warmer* than freaky pale. Everyone knows gingers don't tan so I'm not going for a bronzed look (just a "not dead" skin color), so I have no clue what it would look like if you're trying to look like you slept in a tanning bed, but then, this review is specifically for other pale people like me who probably aren't going for that look either. Ok so the smell...self tanners smell like self tanners. I get so tired of hearing reviews complaining about smells in fake tanners because they ALL have a smell. This smells like fake tanner. BUT it's really really really minor and probably the least smelling tanner I've ever used. So that's awesome. Waterproof-ness - It hasn't been coming off when I workout or when I take showers. Overall, I think it would probably last about 1.5 weeks if you're ok with a nice fade (which this TOTALLY fades nicely). If you want to keep it up, I think applying it once a week is just about perfect. I haven't had ANY problems with it coming off on my white sheets either, which is nice. During the initial application, I did wear a robe around the house and that did get some tanner on it, but I expected that because it wasn't totally absorbed yet. So I guess I should say that for a couple of hours after you first put it on, it could potentially get on clothes/towels/robes, but I don't think this makes the product bad. Also, buy one of those weird self tanner gloves because I wish I'd had now. Another note for you sensitive skinned gingers, I see a lot of people who love the jergens natural glow, and it is cheaper, but you have to apply it way more often for the effects. My skin just can't handle that. It's super sensitive to everything I put on my skin, especially lotion. I totally break out if I put it on my face on a regular basis so I wanted something that was much more "once and done for a week" kind of product instead of a "every couple of days" kind of product. To be 100% fair though, my skin on my face does not LOVE this stuff, but it kind of gets a little red then settles back down in a couple of hours. But it doesn't make me break out or get hives. I've found that lowering the AC in the house or sitting in front of a fan helped with that reaction though. To all my ginger friends out there, you are the only ones who understand that I had to walk through all of this stuff because these are real issues for us (and so many of us are looking for self tanners without any ginger friend resources to go off of). I promise, this is the self tanner you've been looking for.

Shocked it did not rub off on clothes. Follow directions and let it fully dry. I applied it on my tunabelly white legs on a Wednesday and the color developed all day. That evening my legs were evenly tan to match my darker arms. Natural looking and not at all orangey. Stunned at how even the color was. Today, the Monday after I'd applied, it has faded slightly, but is still evenly 'tan'! If you've not seen the sun in years, go lighter. I had a farmer tan from wearing jeans all the time so I wanted my limbs to match, so I used the med/dark. At the rate it stays put, the generous size will last me a lonnng time. GOOD STUFF!! Should have taken pix. Next time I use it will add.

I purchased Beautiful by Earth self tanning lotion in medium to dark. I showered and applied after exfoliating. It smells amazing (a nice coconut scent) from the tube also very emollient. It worked just as stated. I didn’t have any streaking and washed my hands immediately after the application. There was no orangey color as most self tanners have. I let it dry about 15 minutes after getting dressed. The color started appearing in about 2 to 3 hour. Bravo!!! However, after several hours so did the dreaded self-tanners odor 🤢 Every evening, I soak in the tub with fragant Dr. Teal’s and Caress liquid body soap. This self-tanner’s odor did not dissipate and I could still smell it in the morning when I awoke. Took a shower in the morning and could still smell it. I would definitely give this product a 5 star if it weren’t for the strong self-tanner odor. I don’t care what anyone says — unfortunately, they all have it!

I never write reviews but had to write one for this tanning lotion. I have used many pricey tanning lotions before, this by far exceeds them all in texture, application and results. As easy as putting lotion on, no streaking, no staining of clothes and the perfect sun kissed shade.
