Accurate and informative. Tells the truth but doesn't go too far into details. The illustrations are beautiful. The pictures alone are pretty informative too.I would say that some 4th or 5th graders could read this independently. The book is broken into many different sections (every page is a section essentially). It has too much text to read in one sitting for most elementary students, but you could definitely read a few sections a day to talk about the Wampanoag tribes. It gives a really good overview of what life was like for them.With all the sections in this book, I could see children being interesting in picking a section to read for the day. There's one on what young boys would do during the day and one on what girls would do. Then there's a section on pets and and stuff like that.
