Well made Martingale collar.
By way of background, my high energy rescue Terrier mix (thought to be Jack Russell x Whippet) loves to run and obsesses over squirrels. Rabbits, chipmunks, birds and the occasional fox are great fun, too, but nothing excites him like squirrels. I have a dog tolerant park across the street, which has an abundance of oak trees as well as concomitant squirrels. I let him burn energy by running after the squirrels on a 26' Flexi Freedom leash, and he often takes a 50' run at them.In the past, this has resulted in a number of broken leather collars, which was not only expensive, but resulted in a dog running loose with no tags. To prevent that, I've resorted to using two collars. His full time Perri leather dress collar holds his tags. The second goes on with his leash. At first, I tried a standard chain collar for its strength, but wasn't too happy with that as the dog dislikes having a collar placed over his head and, worse, the chain is hard on his neck when he hits the end of the leash running full speed (something he has learned to avoid most of the time, but not always).Standard martingale collars alleviated the later somewhat, but not his aversion to having a collar placed over his head. Regular snap on collars were okay, but unless I make them tighter than I prefer, they tend to slide over his small Whippet-like head when he decides to back up.I finally found these, which are exactly what I wanted. They are pricey, but seem to be very well made and likely to last a long time. They snap on quickly and smoothly (not all snap-ons do), and fit him comfortably. As someone mentioned, they do seem to run a bit large. At its minimum circumference, the small size does not squeeze my 21 lb. dog's 12-1/2 inch neck (indeed, the collar measures nearly 13 inches at its smallest setting by my calculation), but it also does not slide over his head, so it is fine for my purposes. I have no doubt they'd serve very well as an everyday collar for those with more conventional needs as well, but you might need a size smaller than you think.

Keeps a dog with a small head SAFE from slipping out of its collar. Great quality. NOT a choke collar.
This well made collar is ideal for a dog whose head is not much bigger than its neck. If you are walking a dog with a small head and it stops while you continue forward, a standard collar can slip right over the dog's head. This collar is designed to be loose on the neck when the dog is not pulling on the leash. It snugs up when the dog pulls. When the collar is correctly adjusted, the chain pulls as the dog pulls. The chain stops pulling when the fabric ends of the collar touch. This great design limits the amount of pressure on the neck. But it keeps the collar snug enough to prevent a dog from slipping out of the collar. If your neighbors misunderstand the collar and think you have a choke collar I recommend the version of this collar without the quick release. This alternate version of the collar works in exactly the same way but the chain on the quick release collar is replaced with fabric on the collar without the quick release. Canine Equipment Technika 1-Inch All Webbing Martingale Dog Collar, Medium, Black For the small headed dog, another option is a harness. My neighbor's little dog wears a Puppia harness. It makes him safe and for some reason he really likes it and feels more relaxed. Puppia Soft Dog Harness, Red, Small

I love the color
My dog is a 20lbs mixed rescue puppy, at 4 months old. She measures 14 inch behind the ears and I sized down to an XS, which fits perfectly. I don't think it would fit any dogs smaller than mine. Our walks are much easier now. As for the slippy fabric, I haven't had a problem with that, I think it's because the adjusting buckle happens to rest on the rubber "CE tag" sewn onto the collar, and the rubber provides friction. Another could be because after two walks, my puppy started pulling a lot less. I love the color, and the quick release is certainly convenient. You can also use it as a regular collar if needed.

Good quality; chain leaves color on fur if it gets wet.
I have a 28lb beagle/border collie mix with a deceptively skinny 10" neck. It is really hard for me to find a collar that is the right length, but still wide enough to be effective for her. We are in the X-small category for most brands, and 99% of those only have 1/2 inch wide collars, which would end up being a garrote on my little bundle of muscle and energy with no leash manners! So, I was VERY excited to find the 3/4 in our size (her requirement) that also had quick release buckle and extra d-ring for tags (my requirements). The collar is performing well, the size is perfect to allow that little bit of 'chain noise' that helps to signal the correction behavior to the dog. After a recent roll in the mud and subsequent bath, I put the collar back on while her fur was still a bit damp and the chain did leave a gray discoloration on the white neck fur, which means that the stainless steel is tarnishing. Since I can't keep this dog away from water and mud, I will have to be mindful to just use it for training and take it off her otherwise. Overall good, sturdy construction other than that tarnishing chain.

Sizing is different on the label and length differs from collar to collar
This collar is the second one I have ordered because my 1 year old mini dachshund at the clip on the last one. The advert on the webpage says 8-12" and you can see from the picture the label says 9 1/2-11". This was the same with both orders and I let the seller know the first time I ordered this item. I took a photo because of the obvious size difference even though they were both XS. My dog is 11" around his neck so if I adjust this to the longest length it fits. All that said if you can find the one that fits it does hold up and the clip is easy to do and undo.
