Kieli, Vol. 1 (novel): The Dead Sleep in the Wilderness - light novel (Kieli (novel), 1) (Volume 1) Paperback – Illustrated, July 14, 2009

I didn't know much about this light novel before buying it, and now it's my favorite! I carried it with me everywhere I went until I finished reading, the story is very interesting, and I'm definitely going to buy the rest of the volumes.

This book falls into my "Why did I wait so long to read it" category. The world building and characters are amazing.

What a fun new world to discover. A complex world which you learn about over the course of the book.A protagonist who starts off very closed off, but becomes more honest and sure of herself as the book goes on. For those who aren't a fan don't forget that she is very young in this book and it shows. I can't wait to see her grow in the following books. I already ordered the second one.Harvey is interesting. And as much as some would accuse him of being bland I like that he is very closed off. He has had massive trauma in war and as the undying has watched those around him age and die. It will be fun to see how he changes in the books. I get the feeling the suffering is not at an end.There is a darker sense of humor in this book. Which isn't shocking since a lot of the characters are dead.Worth a look see. I had fun.

I loved the book. It arrived really fast. I was surprised plus I got a really good deal on it. I recommend it and also the manga.

Maybe I was expecting too much after having read Spice and Wolf. I liked the plot that was sold, but the execution was bland. Characters are stereotypical, following the same format you'd find in just about every anime/manga out there (even though it is a novel). Kieli, the main character, had no real interesting qualities. Harvey, the anti-hero, couldn't seem to make up his mind if he was just pretending to dislike people or if he really didn't care. The pacing of the story was erratic as well, with long, almost pointless scenes, followed by a short, high tense event involving ghosts, and back again. The plot had potential, but I think it could have been handled better.Overall, I'd only recommend for otaku.

Amazing and well-written; I'll be getting the next books in the series. I love the manga and have read it over 10 times and the novels are excellent too. The book itself is in good condition.

I couldn't stop reading, I love it's post war apocalyptic style and the mystery behind each character.
