Safe Thaw is the new name for a product previously marketed under the name Safe Paw. Name changed probably to better express its generally safe use for property, kids, and pets.Unlike most ice melters that claim to be safe for pets and safe for concrete, brick, etc, Safe Thaw is actually safe for all of these things. Safe Thaw does not contain any form of salt, including no rock salt. Contrary to the claims on the packaging of most rock salts, including those marketed as pet safe, rock salt is not safe for pets and not safe for concrete. Rock salt will damage concrete over time. Any form of salt (calcium chloride, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, fill-in-the-blank chloride) is hazardous to your pets and property.I originally started using Safe Thaw under its old name Safe Paw before I had a dog. I started using it for the safety of my concrete driveway and sidewalks and for the safety of my brick steps. Safe Thaw will not damage concrete or brick. We now have a dog and are glad that Safe Thaw exists for her paws sake as well.Pros: Safe Thaw effectively melts ice and helps prevent its return if there is a followup storm. It is actually safe for pet paws. It won't damage driveways, steps, sidewalks, lawns, etc. This approximately 10 pound container has a shaker top making spreading easy. I like that they increased size of this shaker container from the previous 8 pound Safe Paw.Cons: It costs more than rock salt based products. However, you do not need to use as much. In fact, you only need a fraction of this compared to other products. It is also harder to find.

This stuff works great and is also safe for my dogs, concrete and gardens. I’ve tried others, and this works the best!

I needed a product that is safe for animals. Salt is so harsh. Performed like it should. Easy to use and clean up.

Seems the bad season may be over. Haven't had a chance to use it. It does seem to be packaged tightly & to pour out easily. So must wait until next season? Hoping it wears well during warmer mos. until winter time again.

This is not a review of the ice melt. It is a review of customer support in the company that makes and sells it. I contacted them to get the cracked shaker top on the lid replaced and although their website indicated help would help, it did not. I have not heard from them.
