Classic Children's Literature Copywork: Practice Handwriting with Excerpts from the Great Books (Classic Copywork: Print)

After much consideration, I chose this handwriting book. I love it. Yes, it's great for handwriting practice. But even more, the quotes add a richness that make it a worthwhile purchase. I use this book for handwriting, dictation, and recitation. So even if they choose a passage for dictation, by the time they're done studying the spelling words, they've also memorized it. My one concern was how small the lines were for the copy work, but my second grader has no problem with the size. I find it helpful now because she is able to use standard ruled notebook paper for other writings.

This book would be fantastic bit there is one huge flaw. There is no top line! I am sure there is some rationale but it makes no sense to me. They even have a middle line that is solid but no top. The content would be great other wise.

I mistakenly thought this was cursive but it is actually print. I am glad I got it though because my soon to be 6th grader needs all the writing practice she can get. They story passages are not so long that she gets hand cramps or complains about having to practice. I will be ordering more when my 4 year old starts writing.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but you should know that for some mysterious reason- the font size is larger in this book than in the previous (or 2nd) edition. So, not a lot of writing practice per-page, really.. but I still enjoy this series and will get the next edition when my son is done with this one.

The idea of this book is great, but the font and working space is very small. It is extremely difficult and frustrating for a child in grades 1-3 to use, and my children have complained about it. It does not meet our needs.

This book is advertised as a copywork book, and the back cover says that is it "suitable for copying directly under the modeled words." However, there are no blank lines. This is a tracing book. I would have to draw in lines if she were to copy under the modeled words. Otherwise, she would need to copy on to notebook paper, which she isn't ready for.
