Hard choice between size and quality
Let me start from beginning.First - as same as second - anvil came in plain USPS thick envelope without any packaging and wrapped with clear tape all around. Package looked like it was dragged behind carrier truck all the way from seller to my place. Not a biggy but still. Rubber part on first anvil looked very dirty, with some strange stains and marks all over it. However metal part was nice and shiny. But with rounded edges and size of it was smaller than it suppose to be to fit exactly into rubber part. After contacting seller I did received replacement. This time rubber was way cleaner, metal part fits perfectly, edges as sharp as x-acto knife. Everything seems to be the way it suppose to, aside of fact that metal part wasn't near as hard as first one. Few VERY gentle very small hammer knocks left visible marks on surface. So here was a choice - keep smaller anvil with rounded edges and dirty rubber but hard steel OR shiny sharp edged (and edges were really sharp, I cut my finger while unpacking) perfect sized with clean rubber but soft metal.I kept first one with rubber part from second anvil and send the rest back to seller. Will I buy it again? Don't think so. In a case if I"ll need another one I'll be looking for other brand.

Very Nice, Smaller Work Surface
This takes the place of a couple large diameter motor shaft cutoffs that I've been using as an anvil and the like for years. The only issue with them was the corrosion they've picked up over the years. If I could prop a screen door open with this as easily as the shaft pieces, it would be a 4.5 of 5.0.

Much less vibration
With the rubber base I can use my metal letter punches on any table and not have everything bounce around. Before I had to use my metal number punches on a very sturdy object. You don't know you needed it until you do have it.

Perfect
Just received my block and it is exactly as described! On side had a couple super tiny dinks in it but the other side of the metal was perfect. This will work great for my project

Nice size anvil and works great.
So far I've used it once to attach a a piece of cloth elastic strap end to my tool pouch. With a small rivet, it worked great. Soon I'll be using it to attach eyelets to a leather cuff I'm making.I really like the rubber base , absorbs shock and helps to reduce noise when hammering.Removing the protective coating off the rubber base took a few minutes though.

A large dense metal block held in a wrap-around rubber cover
This is a substantial dense metal block that stays put on the table, thanks to the rubber cover that also wraps around the sides of the block. Some blocks are smaller than this one, and that makes it harder to work long wires.

Works good
This is an excellent bench block for Jewelry repair. I would give it 5 stars, but the rubber base stinks badly. When you touch it your hands stink. I have had it for a few months now and it still smells the same way.
