it stops cutting at about the 10 o'clock position
I am very disappointed with this can opener. It doesn't finish the cut. it stops cutting at about the 10 o'clock position and pushes the lid down into the can where it is hard and dangerous to lift it up.

German quality, comfortable to hold
I've used a Swing-A-Way can opener for many years, so I had one eyebrow up when I tried this Westmark can opener. I've always liked well made German products for their long-lasting quality and functionality, and my previous experience with Westmark products has been very good.This can opener worked well to open cans, but didn't grip the edges quite as well as my Swing-A-Way, requiring me to start over and re-grip the can edge during opening. I did like the soft grips and turn handle on this opener, which made using it more comfortable. I has a bottle opener built into the side of it, and an unique feature too - a flat prying tip for lifting the sharp edge of an opened can.I like that this opener is dishwasher-safe, chrome plated steel. The gears are also steel, and well mounted for years of use. The German quality is apparent just by picking it up.I received a complimentary Westmark Monopol can opener for testing and review purposes. I wasn't asked to leave a positive review, and my honest opinion is that this is a 4 star item.

watch out
well i usually love German made things, and this opener probably is great in Germany, but I'm finding that the cans used here in the United States are not that compatible to the cutting device. looks like good quality so for other countries may be better. what happens is the edges of USA cans will not get a good grip, therefore does not cut well, starts and stops and slips off.

This is a great can opener
This is a great can opener. I have been using one like this for about 15 years. It still works but recently I bent it on an ammo can. Actually I straightened it and it still works but this was after I ordered this one. Had to make wife happy.
