Great Hardware, Okay Software
This programmer works great and can handle a very wide range of devices. I chose this one because it was the only programmer I could find known to program a particular device I needed. The hardware feels very sturdy and high quality. The software is relatively easy to use but feels "old school" and a little clunky, like it was made for Windows 98. The GUI doesn't quite format right under Windows 10, so certain elements like progress bars get cut-off at the edges, the info button is super narrow, etc. This doesn't hinder operation, just looks weird. I had no trouble installing the software and drivers and was up and running in less than 10 minutes.

Works in Windows 7 VIrtualbox on mac
I purchased this because my TL866II would not write 2716 eprom which have a higher voltage (21v-25v vpp). Of course you can apply that voltage to the pin externally but you risk damaging the programmer and computer if you plug in a shorted eprom. This device is only supported under windows, but I was able to get it working under Virtualbox on my mac. I could not get it working under XP for some reason, but in Windows 7 it works fine. The secret is to add a USB2.0 port device to the machine configuration and attach the programmer to that port in the config. Then boot the VM, plug in the programmer, and when the program looks for the programmer, it will reset it disconnecting it. Go to the USB menu on the VM, and re-share the programmer's usb device with the VM, and the program will detect it, and it will work normally.I was able to write to several different 2716's without an external power supply OR a powered USB hub.An external power supply jack is there, should your USB port not supply enough power for writing these old eproms.Overall I am much happier with it than expected.

Perfect!
Great product, worked first time without issues. Why the programmer without the 16 bit EPROM Adapter could not be shipped to my address I still can't figure out, but I'm happy with additional capabilites.

Does exactly what it is suppose to and comes with a Free adapter. Very happy with!
I am new to programming EPROMS. I did a ton of research and also had a close friend recommend this particular model. All of my research also pointed in this direction so I went with it. It took a little time to learn the software but once I got the hang of it, everything went very well. The Free adapter is also a nice bonus as I have seen just the programmer sell for more.Lots of support on their website with all the software being readily downloadable. The only complaint I would have is that the software is dated and needs to have a nicer GUI.

Eprom burning without any problem
Does what I was hoping for, in different types of eprom.

endless troubles with the Drivers (Win7) & Buffer Underrun Errors.
Since the new 4x4 Model Im having just troubles with the programmer under Win7, the programmer most times (8 of 10 times ) isnt recognized ("please reconnect") I been working with the newest drivers on 3 different Win7 PCs, but some troubles, sometimes the driver works, most times not. After 3 Willem GQ-4X ( the old model 4X worked best for me, but died after 1 year ) so I ordered and new 4X4 Model a few month ago. First one didnt work at all (returned), 2nd now works sometimes, and if the programmer is recognized by the buggy driver software the new 4x4 has by far more "buffer underrun" errors with M27c160 and M27c800 chips then I had with the older model. The Buffer Underun might be a problem from 16 bit EPROM Adapter for 42pin chips, the 16bit Eprom addon adapter can be added on top of the programmer if you using chips with 42pins ( M27c160 etc ) - it sits pretty unstable on the GQ-4x programmer. ( for example when you change to the next chip for programming )Im working now with the TOP3000 USB Programmer from a different maker / same priceclass since a while now, I pretty much gave up on the Willem Programmer due endless troubles.Compared with the GQ-4X the Top3000 doesnt need the Unstable 42pin adaptor and the software / Driver works straight away for me every time. without"buffer underruns" ( still using same chips as before).

Works right out of the box
Well constructed and I was able to read an eprom within minutes of connecting. I wish it had the ability to change the supply voltage. I have heard that some eproms struggle with lower voltage as they age. But that was not a feature they advertised, I just wanted to share it.This device really is cool and easy to use. I haven’t used the adapter but it looks equally well constructed.
