SorelMen's Caribou Wool Boot

The Cankle Makers
I like these boots, but they are huge. And they are super fat in the ankles for no reason. No human has feet shaped like this. I wear a size 12. Bought a 12 and I was swimming in them. So I returned the 12's and got an 11.5 (all sizes US men). Still huge. And mostly huge around the ankles. I get that you might want thick socks (although I want wool lined boots so I don't have to wear such thick socks), but unless you have three pair of socks wrapped around just your ankles, these boots will not fit well.I will say these guys are quite warm. Too bad the fit is so terrible. I wish they sold ladies boots in men's sizes, the Sorel and Merrel boots in lady styles seemed to be shaped like human feet, rather than these which are designed for more of a wookie fit.

Not what they used to be
I have worn Sorel Caribou's for almost 40 years. I figured it was time to retire these old friends and get a new pair. I ordered the Men's Caribou Boot, and decided to upgrade to a wool liner. As always with Amazon, I received these boots quickly and they were exactly what I had ordered. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the transaction. Upon examination I was struck by how much thinner the leather uppers were compared to my old Sorel's. Also, the boot pulls on the back of the boots were very thin and flimsy, and one of them had a small cut in the leather that I'm sure, would cause the loop to split over time. I noticed that the laces were much thinner and cheaper than the originals, which by the way, are in great shape on my 40 year old Canadian made boots! I next examined the liner and noticed that it too was noticeably thinner than my old liners. The final straw was the stitching on the new liners. It was already split, and I hadn't even tried on the boots!Once again, it seems to be a case of profit margin over quality. I know it's cheaper to make these boots in China, but the reason that people like me buy them is the quality. The quality on these new Sorel's is sadly lacking. I must search for some other maker to find what had in my old Sorel's. I returned these boots for a refund.

Warm, Rugged, Roomy but not wool
Warm and toasty. Not wool however. Don't let the description mislead, these ARE NOT wool-lined. It's a synthetic wool-like textured fibre. That said they are roomy, warm and comfortable. I am an 11E and a set of 11s in these give me ample room.I contacted Amazon and asked them to modify the description since it is somewaht misleading - I see that hasn't been addressed.

Hobnail sole pattern is dangerous - lacks traction on packed snow or ice.
As you can see in the attached photo, I have gotten a lot of good use out of my old Sorel boots over the past 30+ years (battered gray boot on right), and their Vibram lug sole pattern provides excellent traction in virtually all snow and ice conditions that I have encountered in the midwest and the Colorado mountains. The uppers were getting to be pretty worn, so I decided to buy a replacement pair. Sorel apparently doesn't make the Vibram lug pattern sole anymore, so I ordered the Sorel Men's Caribou Wool Boot,Burro, 9.5 M which only comes with their hobnail sole pattern (brown boot on left). Nice looking, fits well, is very comfortable and warm, and I can snow shoe all day in them.BUT, I agree with PJC that they are "Definitely not good on ice or ground covered with a light cover of snow". The new hobnail sole pattern affords virtually no traction, which I quickly realized and have relied on my old gray beaters and a new pair of Men's Kamik® Alborg WATERPROOF Pac Boots, Tan that I have recently purchased, both of which have a lug sole pattern with excellent traction.I am writing this review after mistakenly wearing my new hobnail Sorels to walk the dog early this morning, encountered a patch of packed snow covered by a light layer of fresh snow and suddenly had both feet slip out from underneath me to land flat on my back.

Fit is as advertised with a little room for extra socks.
First of all i live in Alaska where winter is 5-6 months a year. I use these boots everyday for around the house chores and prefer a medium to loose fit (all shoes) so i can walk up and slide right into them and go. No tightening or tying laces unless serious outdoor activity is to be undertaken. I generally wear a size 13 and i ordered a size 13. Fit was perfect for me, a little loose with enough room to wear extra or extra thick socks. Overall very pleased with the Boot

Initial impression is these are quality boots
I bought these because i needed new pac boots. I had looked at Sorels for years but passed due to the price. I was worried due to a lot of negative reviews. I figured Amazon would take care of any returns if i had issues. Boots arrived quickly and I tried them on. I ordered my normal number size. I have double E wide feet.. fit was tight. I pulled out the inserts and put my socked foot in the boot.. plenty of room. Inserts were tight in the width,, I then put the inserts on and walked around in them stretching them out. I put the inserts back in the boot and the fit was comfortable. I decided to keep them after careful inspection. Boots are made in Vietnam. I was actually impressed with the materials and construction. A note on fit. There is plenty of room forward in the toe box area. Those with narrow feet might be better off ordering a size down. With my wide feet fit is good. Yes the boot is big and walking takes getting used too. I did order A bottle of Revivex rubber boot treatment and have applied that to the rubber..i treated my hunting pacs and my Bogs. Stuff works wonders. Im hoping it will preserve these boots. I also have applied Bick 4 to the leather. I want these to last.

Slightly Smaller than normal size
I just received these in the mail. I ordered them in 9, 9.5, and 10. For comparison sake, I wear a size 8.5 Allen Edmonds dress shoe, a size 9 Mizuno running shoe and Keen sandals, a size 10 Dr. Martens and Keen hiking boots. So saying "true to normal size" doesn't do me much good. My foot is slightly on the narrow side. With my winter skiing socks on (REI Expedition Hiking Socks) the size 9 Sorel was absolutely a perfect fit. I wore them around the house for a few hours to see if any trouble would develop and nothing ever did. So I'm thrilled with the fit and of course the quality is excellent. I'll be spending some time in Colorado before the winter is up and if there is anything disappointing to report, I'll come back here and update. Otherwise, assume I couldn't be happier.

Over Priced And Disappointing
I bought these boots to keep my feet warm and dry during the winter months.Pros - Well made, excellent grip, waterproof.Cons - Doesn’t keep the feet warm which for me was one of the primary factors for buying these boots! They claim to keep your feet warm in temperatures I think something like - 40, well I haven’t been out in temperatures anything close to that but found my feet to be cold and when that happens the rest of the body quickly chills also. I have cured the problem by purchasing some lambs wool liners but when I pay around the £100 mark I really did expect better.Would I recommend you but the product? No definitely not, purely on the points I have mentioned - The manufacture should ensure that when they claim they will keep your feet warm in sub zero temperatures that they actually do keep your feet warm and could have easily achieved this by fitting a quality thermal liner.Sorry but disappointed in my purchase 👎

Incredible boots that draw attention
These boots are chunky. They are striking. They stand out. I think that's pretty cool (and I've actually never owned such a boot before) but expect to get comments!I'm very pleased with the colour I went for. I actually got two to compare via Amazon wardrobe. The inner comes out and can be washed/dried separately. I haven't needed to wash it though as I usually wear a thin pair of socks under a thick pair of socks so only the thin pair need changing every day. The thick ones (heat holders) every few days and the fleece inner itself is fully protected from getting damp. The only issue you might face is that you're feet may actually start sweating which, later in the day, can cause some clamminess that does begin to feel kind of cold, bit it's different from actually having cold feet. Also, you could probably find your perfect inner layer setting to avoid this happening.I sit in a cold shop with a concrete floor for many hours in the winter and this year I decided to fix the problem. These did it! And they are so quick and easy to put on and take off and feel so cosy that I'm wearing them everywhere right now!

description needs to be corrected
Ok, received these boots in a fairly good time,, some people on here have said they are not true to size but I don't agree, I'm a size 11 and they were a perfect fit other than one boot was tighter to get on than the other but that could be caused by the thickness of the liner, not overly impressed by the liner, its advertised as a wool liner but its not what you think, the white wool material is not real wool at all and the insert itself feels like its a felt like material, I contacted Sorel and they kind of confirmed it was the right insert and that I was right and the description was a bit inaccurate ,that said they are lovely and warm and well made even if the leather stitched onto the wool was wonky, no way would I pay the full retail price for these boots but the discounted offer I got was ok,
