I finally got it!
I don’t know what took me so long I’m such a fan of the books and I know it’s not great lol, but I loved the first season of the show because I love the books so much so I had to have it. Almost impossible to find the second season.

Can't Get Enough
I'll admit, when I watched the first episode of Legend of the Seeker on Netflix I was deeply disappointed. I had almost finished the first book in the Sword of Truth series Wizard's First Rule and I watched in horror as the story that it had taken me 800+ pages to read was almost all but given away in under an hour of only the first episode of the series. It left me to wonder how on earth they could have a story worth telling if everything was already revealed AND altered quite a bit. Needless to say, it took me a while to start up the second episode but let me tell you I am SO GLAD that I did.Once you separate the show from the books you'll be pleasantly entertained and swept off your feet by this series and its colorful assortment of characters. In each episode Richard and his faithful friends are faced with a new adventure and must overcome yet another obstacle that stands between them and their true goal. To defeat Darken Rahl. Now, as a kid I LOVED watching shows like Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules so I rather enjoyed the fact that this series had qualities not unlike those shows. The witty humor, the action scenes, maybe even a bit corny at times but still very enjoyable. Its a series that is entertaining whether you've read the books or not. The characters are lovable and dare I say it, captivating. Before picking up this series I had never seen Craig Horner in any other films or TV shows, mostly because this was his breakout role. And man am I happy it was. (This is the part where I let my infatuation with Craig Horner take the reins for a bit, so bare with me). Every good story needs a good hero. Richard/Horner plays a hero that you can't help but root for. He's kind and forgiving but he's merciless when it comes to fighting for what he believes in. And in truth he played this role REALLY well. If I had to formulate an idea of what Richard was like in my mind I don't think it would be as true to character as Craig Horner was able to portray. Need I mention how attractive he is? I mean, some episodes wowed me more than others, I'll be honest, but Horner never let me down in the swoon-worthy department. Before I get even more sidetracked I have to say that as far as entertainment goes this series never let me down. Maybe it's not entirely true to the book but that's something you have to expect from a television adaptation. And I would argue that if it had been given the proper publicity the series would have gone on longer than its mere two seasons.

Of course it's not the same as the books. So what?
I've read the Sword of Truth series several times since the initial release of Wizards First Rule in the 90's. I love the characters, but feel Terry Goodkind lost his way in the later books (not an uncommon failing in modern fantasy writers; see Robert Jordan for the ultimate proof of totally losing your way after a few books). I didn't realize that the SoT had been adapted for TV until I was browsing Netflix recently and ran across this series. I've now watched the entire first season. I know there is no practical way to faithfully adapt the books themselves. Nor would I expect them to. However, the flavor of the Midlands/Westland etc. is there. They nailed the casting of Kahlan and I think Zedd's actor is also very good. The actor playing Richard is not exactly the physical presence that I would have imagined, but he does a good job otherwise and certainly has a great chemistry with the actress playing Kahlan. Darkan Rahl is well played; I do wish they'd kept him as Richard's father and not brother, but oh well. Now, obviously the series has changed a lot of the concepts that were in the books. Denna lives and is "evil". The Mord Sith for some reason don't seem as menacing as in the books. Probably a hard concept to translate to a TV series intended for family viewing. There seem to be Rada'hans everywhere and a simple key is all it takes to unlock them. I also wish the D'haran bond to Richard through the Rahl bloodline had been preserved as I think the growth he experiences in becoming a true leader after killing Darkan Rahl is an important aspect of the books. BUT, despite all the changes, this is an enjoyable series to watch. Think of it as an "alternate" universe to the books. Given the production limitations of a syndicated TV show, I think they do a great job and some of the unique story lines (i.e. not found at all in the books) are fun/entertaining. If you're willing to have an open mind about the story then you'll undoubtadly enjoy this series. If you're a purist who can't stand many alterations from the book series then you shouldn't watch this show. If you've never read the books, I highly recommend reading at least the first 3. I love them up through Faith of the Fallen.
