Bubble Gum Music
I am a huge Pink Martini fan which makes me an ardent admirer of China Forbes. So when here solo album came out I assumed the best but China let me down. I have the feeling she sings these songs to her children and if you are a child, they probably sound pretty fine. But if you are an adult looking for the sophistication and finesse of Pink Martini, this album is not it.

China Syndrome ..
We've followed Pink Martini almost from their inception and see them every time they tour New England, often in multiple states. China Forbes has a beautiful rich voice with an expansive range. Listening to her sing is always a pleasure, a wonder ... until we listened to her on her new "78" album. Like ... Bombs-ville!! Formulaeic. Boring. Flat. Toneless. Unimaginative. Repetitious. Exceptionally dull, to the point that one panics and smites the STOP button on the CD player to kill the droning. Oh God, what was was China thinking? Or - flushed with PM successes, did she stop thinking? On this CD, she certainly stopped singing. No rating is low enough so for my wife and I, China's "78" CD should remain in the dark nether world of "unrated". Unfortunately, Amazon's system forces a minmal rating. The "78" CD is not worth even this! Stay with the Pink Martini professional CDs ...

Unfortunately, .. meh..
This is not nearly as good as her work with Pink Martini. If you're a fan of her there, and I am, you can skip this, it's not what I hoped it would be.

Good Album for China Forbes afficianados
Didn't find this as enjoyable as her work in Pink Martini, though it did have a few highlight songs on it.

Good but not her best
She is at her best with Pink Martini.

Not Pink Martini
Some songs have a decent sound. Definitely lacks the artisanship and differentiation of Pink Martini.

Shades of 60s
Hard to believe that it is China Forbes singing. Clearly, she developed her style and found her true voice since she wrote and sang this album. It is reminiscent of albums from the 60s. Her voice is almost flat and most tunes are relatively mundane. It is pleasant enough but nothing like the Pink Martini sound. Just be aware.
