Lots of Info!
I bought this book a few weeks ago to supplement my growing collection of Missouri hiking books. I live on the western side of the state, and needed a detailed guide for the eastern side of the state for trip planning. This book provides lots of information that any hiker needs to plan and execute day trips and overnight stays in Eastern Missouri. I highly recommend it to anyone doing any hiking in Eastern Missouri. The only problem I have is that I bought the kindle version, and the maps are very hard to read on a small screen. This is no fault of the book, it's my fault for not thinking about it before I pushed the "Buy Now With One Click" button.I highly recommend this book to any hiker planning a trip to Eastern Missouri, or to locals who are looking to get everything they can out of local trails.

Must have for St. Louis hikers
This is our go-to book for choosing hikes within the St. Louis area. Originally checked it out from the library and used it so often we bought the updated version on Amazon. There are a variety of hikes listed for hikers of all skill level. Makes you appreciate all the beauty this area has to offerUPDATE: I've now owned this book for a bit and have had a chance to really utilize it. The descriptions for the hikes are pretty accurate considering when the last update was and now. I have found a few of the areas to have additional hikes or some of the trails that once had generic names have been named. These are minor details though. Directions listed to get to the trailheads, parks, natural areas and conservation areas are accurate. In some cases, they are better to use than your GPS.I like to make notes after I hike a trail or an area, so I do wish there was a blank page or two included with each chapter so that trail and area notes could be made. In addition, when the book is updated, it would be great to have a website or something online linked to the book.I still consider this the best hiking book for the St. Louis and surrounding areas. If you live in the STL area and love hiking, this is a must have for your collection or anyone you know who loves to hike. It's given me an appreciation for where I live and what the area has to offer. Please note, I have updated my star rating to a 4 from a 5 due to some of the things I wish were different about the book.

Some of Missouriโs Best!
This book is great! We are avid hikes and live in the St. Louis area.Have used this book to plan weekend hiking trips and family day hikes with the kids. Ended up hiking the Taum Hawk trail first. Canโt wait to hike more of the Missouri trails.

Useful book with interesting hikes
Original 08/31/13Great book that is well organized. Tons of useful information for all the hikes. Hike difficulty ratings are fairly accurate.Update 05/21/14My friend and I have now done about 15 hikes in this book so I thought I'd provide an update. We map all the hikes using MapMyRun app. Recently we realized the total trail mileage per hike is often accurate but the intermediate mileage from point A to point B along the trail is frequently wrong. Recommend you match up the book diagram to the gps tracking diagram on your cell phone to see if you miss a turn or not.Best trails in order are below. In general all the best trails seem to be south of STL. Highly recommend all the ones below for the fall. Pictures with changing leaf colors were spectacular from the lookout points.1. Green Rock Trail2. Pickle Springs Natural Area - Trail Through Time3. Pere Marquette State Park4. Hawn State Park

Bucket List
I'm making this my bucket list for 2020. My one concern is where does the 60 miles start because many of these are more than an hour away from StL.

Very nice
I read the write-up on the hike I've been doing for 16 years. It was well written and spot on. Didn't think I could learn anything about that hike, but I did learn a number of things I didn't know. Also, like the short version of the read that gives you the general jist. An Executive Summary of the hike, if you will. Plus each hike is plugged into catagories, like hilly, flat, shady, less traveled, etc. Wish my CO hiking books were this well put together.

Good Guide to Get Moving
Lists many excellent parks/hikes. It gives useful information not available by looking at a map, but in the experience of just two hikes the information seems to be somewhat out of date. All of the important facts that would keep you on the trail are true, but the trails were a lot easier to follow than suggested, and some of the scenery points did not exist? This book will get you to and thru the good places.
