Fantastic gadget
Despite numerous negative reviews I thought I would gamble a few pounds. The watch takes maybe 30 seconds to show any signs of life on first charge. I tried a Giffgaff SIM as suggested (the watch obviously requires a SIM card since it is basically a tiny mobile phone, a fact which appears to have taken other reviewers by surprise) and found signal strength wasn't great indoors but was still good enough in some rooms for me to set the watch up, an ingenious process which involves sending carefully-formatted text messages to its new mobile number. The first set of suggested Giffgaff APN details didn't work for me, but the second set did. There are two versions of the app available; both Setracker and Setracker2 work OK but the latter seems to have better support for the watch camera even if it does display an annoying ad every now and then. The app's locator map defaults to a building in China, but pressing the green location marker will cause it to try to refresh the watch location. If the watch has a GPS signal and can obtain a data connection at that particular moment (GPS can also be flaky), after a few seconds the map will refresh to show the exact location of the watch. If it doesn't have a GPS signal, the map will show the position of the LBS (local base station, i.e. mobile phone mast) the watch is currently connected to, which may be some distance away, but is probably better than nothing. The map will accordingly show either GPS or LBS at the bottom. The functions for making and receiving phone calls were easy enough for a 7-year-old to master in seconds and are what make the watch a real James Bond gadget. Call quality is excellent, and a quick search on the Internet finds SMS command sequences to whitelist particular numbers so all other callers are sent to some kind of voicemail. Mobile signal strength seems fine outdoors although it has only been used in an urban area so far, and data usage has been pretty minimal, so PAYG is likely to be adequate. Battery life is OK when idle but a daily charge is probably required for average use. I assume the device's limitations (battery life, GPS/mobile signal strength) are due to its size (i.e. small antennae) and/or cheap components but at this price it seems churlish to complain. I would probably not recommend the watch to anyone who would have struggled to program a VCR, but it is great.

Disappointed
The reason I bought this and I’m guessing this is why most people would by this item is the gps tracking. Well, the gps says my son is 5 miles away even though he’s sat next to me wearing the watch. This to me is completely pointless.

Don't waste your money
I bought 2 of these for my sons for xmas and they're completely unusable. The battery life is appalling, the gps tracker doesn't work, cant read any text messages sent or even add a phone number to the phone book.It wasn't easy to set up at all and the app is just useless. Dont waste your money, nearly £80 in the bin.

Not worth it
We tried several different sim cards but it seems to have a problem in general with this watch. There is no reception most of the time and without the reception you can't do anything. I am returning it!

Do not buy
Complete waste of money. Even with the correct sim cards the functions on each of the three watches I bought don't work. Do not buy these.
