But it might not be a region to discover by guide! Review: Huge Help for My Travels! - I've been traveling extensively for years and almost always rely on Lonely Planet as a loose guide. I bought both the Bradt Travel Guide and this Lonely Planet guide to Ukraine. Although Bradt is much more detailed with historical information, I found this Lonely Planet version more useful. Part of the usefulness is that it's NOT so detailed, which makes it easier to pop into your pocket and take with -- and refer to -- during travels. In addition, this guide is much more contemporary than the Bradt, which is several years old and clearly out of date in some respects. I spent all my time in Kiev and think, unless you will be spending months there, this Lonely Planet guide is perfectly suited with walking tours, information about attractions, restaurants, hotels, etc. I found the maps a little confusing but, then again, Kiev is a little confusing whenever you venture off the main streets. That's a minor complaint in a guidebook I would recommend.

Wait for the new book to come out
Dated. There needs to be a new version, as street maps are now incorrect in a few places, and there is not enough information about Euromaidan or the aftermath to help potential travellers. Tips, Uber, and sim cards for your phone are all areas where this book is lacking. For example, it says no tipping in Ukraine, which is wrong. Tipping is about 5-10% less than other major cities, but it's become part of the culture here. Otherwise this is a thorough book by writers who understand the culture and history of Ukraine well.

Excellent source of guide information
I went with a Ukrainian, and she was constantly find things out from this guide that she had not known. Excellent source of guide information, and an excellent concise history of Ukraine.

Totally useless. I used to love Lonely Planet
Totally useless. I used to love Lonely Planet, but this book is totally useless. Especially, the information on hotels and restaurants sucks. It seems as if these days they just go to tripadvisor, read travelers' reports and incorporate suggestions instead of doing their own research.
