Fantastic utility knife
I was trying to find the best all around fixed blade for camping, hiking and all around EDC carry. This one has a thick spine, but a narrow grip profile. The polymer sheath has a lock feature that takes a moment to get used to. Not the lever portion, but the slight back pressure to release the blade from the sheath. This means that the knife is practically impossible to fall out of the sheath when locked and very resistant to falling out when unlocked. It is a beautifully conceived sheath security feature. This means you can carry it tip up, if you had it attached to a pack strap or a molle vest. The only downside for me is that the scales are fairly thin and I have very large hands, so it is not as comfortable. I may make some thick scales out of micarta to swap out for comfort. This means I will have to make a leather sheath, because the included sheath os not designed for thicker scales. I will try it and see if it works better for me.

High quality knife from Fällkniven
Compared the Fällkniven A, S, and F lines, and settled on the F because of the smaller size but had trouble deciding between the F1 Pro and F1x. Ultimately went with the F1x because of the full tang and option to replace handle scales. (If I’d be holding this knife for hours at a time or regularly use it in freezing temperatures, I’d look at the Pro line, but even after days of use at camp I have no issues with the handle) The checkered scales are grippy. I thought at first that I’d take some fine grit sandpaper to them to smooth them down but I like the grippiness. One note: I ever have new handle scales made/3D printed that were “fatter,“ the knife would have a hard time fitting into the supplied sheath. I really like the sheath; it is well designed. I have no issues with this knife, though at some point I’ll need to learn how to sharpen a convex grind.Very sturdy knife that has handled everything I’ve thrown at it; would recommend.

Pros and cons on new handle design
I am an avid fan of Falknivens fixed blade knives and own both their “original line” of F1’s and S1’s as well as the A1x and S1x quite frankly overkill to have this many when one will serve you a life time but I purchased for the Art of these knives -art, form, and function all meeting in them. I want to specifically address the X series and even more specifically the pros and cons of the new handles. Firstly, there is no negative feedback at all on my part as to the blade nor the even fuller tang of the handle. The COS laminate creates a great “yin and yang” of hardness and toughness marrying these two. The new sheath fixed a number of previous issues with the original F1, S1, plastic sheaths such as rattle ( while still allowing space in the sheath should one be in freezing climates to prevent blade sticking in sheath), the overall need for keeper/strap which both covered the lanyard hole and was frankly a bitch to reattach one handed especially if engaged in multiple tasks and needed to secure with one hand or if wearing gloves ( the probability for losing one of these knives without the strap in place is high if in a “rugged” setting); I prefer plastic over leather as I have been in extreme tropical climates and leather is shit after a few days especially if it becomes wet. They’re new “safety” catch secures the X series stops rattle and can easily be deployed and replaced with even a gloved hand and stupidly simple in the positive KISS sense in its design so very little chance of failure. To the handle scales:PROS:-completely removable allowing for through cleaning of blade- allows for batonning: while this is not advised by the manufacturer, we all know this is a consideration of many; I have done this with most of my Falkniven knives with no damage to the convex blade which cuts through wood smoothly as this almost parallels an ax grind; what HAS happened is damage to the affixed Thermorin handles if catching too many direct hits as this material is soft and will wear and tear on impact. As these new handles leave a few mm exposure of spine, impact is to the more resilient 420 exposed cladding.CONS: again thermorin is soft and tacky which is great for comfortability and non slippage in the hand especially if sweaty and will not degrade as many natural materials will in extreme conditions. This same pro of soft/tackiness served to weaken the very very thin surface area where scales are bolted metal to metal to the handle ( probably a millimeter or less. Thus I have gone through 2 sets of scales eventually aborting this endeavor and cord wrapping the handles. This was not my first desired option but rather necessity as there are ZERO accesses to replacement scales anywhere I have looked. My initial hope was to swap out for linen micarda slabs or some other stronger synthetic. I had even reached out to Falkniven with the suggestion of this and perhaps them even selling various higher end exotic materials as a way to dress up the knife. Falkniven at present is unprepared to investigate this, nor does it appear any private after market or artisans are at this point either. When I approached Falkniven as to the damage to my S1xb slabs which literally pealed off the handle like a banana at the points where screws were placed, they DID Mail me new scales in record time to my address in the US FREE OF CHARGE - I simply sent a picture of the damaged scales -only about a week turnover to get to me in US. Unfortunately after only minor use and what would be expected as “proper” knife care and use, the same thing happened. So: great knife! Great design! Tough durable maintenance free blade- I have taken the non coated ones scuba diving and even in a volcanic sulfur spring with no discoloration or damage to the blade, have had in -20 degrees in Colarado Mountains no damage to blade or sheath ( kydex WILL crack in the cold boys Falkniven tried that prior - this plastic is cheap but good) BUT Achilles had a heal - almost the same irony; such a superior knife imagine being out in the middle of nowhere all those places we fantasize ourselves in with JUST our knife. Then oops the scales peal off in the middle of fighting off the 3rd zombie invasion to our post apocalyptic abode. What an embarrassing way for the Mighty Cassy to strike out...

Craftsmanship
Yup. This is what I wanted. worth every penny. This is a substantial piece and will last a lifetime for sure. Maybe a few. Performs its tasks with ease. A lot of thought and care went into this blade. My go to now for woods, bushcraft and general bad assery.

Goldilocks blade
This is the best fallkniven I’ve handled . It’s sturdy lightweight razor sharp and easy to sharpen with a strop . The s1 x feels a little heavy the f1 x does not . So far no problems with chipping as the vg10 blades sometimes do . It cuts wood like a dream and actually handles other materials well considering how thick it is . Great mini survival or woods knife .

Dull out of the box
I am a big fan of Fallkniven knives but, this F1X was dull out of the box. At Fallkniven prices; I shouldn't have to sharpen a brand new knife. The fit and finish is excellent besides not being sharp, that is the reason I am giving it 4 stars. I think this knife could have been much better, the blade is thicker than it needs to be and the handle is thinner than it should be, I knew this before I bought it but decided to give it a try. What I didn't know in advance is that the blade was going to be almost butter knife dull. The sheath is an improvement over the original F1 sheath.

This knife is AMAZING
This fallkniven F1x is 100% worth the price. I don't know which I like better this fallkniven or my lionsteel m5. Both are great.

Extremely solid knife
Very robust knife, the backbone is 5mm thick. One of the most solid survival knife I have seen so far. Was initially considering some other brands from O and E. But was guided to this brand from some reviews and discussions. And the decision was not wrong. The sheath has a locking notch where the lower guard will slot into. The latch on the other end will then lock it in place to prevent accidental removal. So only when you lift up the latch fully, then you would be able to remove the knife from the sheath. The blade came sharp, but I preferred a sharper edge and a couple of strokes on my honing tool made it even sharper. Will test further, but I can see the quality of the knife from the first look.
